They're talking about the XCOR engine that Dick Rutan tested on the rocket powered Long-EZ.
 
Why don't they just cut to the chase? People killing themselves on the big screen. Make it a series, give them weapons to do the deed, build this big round thing around them, call it a Coliseum.

Do you guys think something like this will actually happened?
You would need a lot of people to fork over a lot of money in order for there to be an entire racing league.
Pretty neat stuff though.

Judging from last week's voluminous pileups at Taladega, they better learn how to handle the piston powereds a whole lot better first, and then go check those tars again.
