Got a student who needs the VFR XC's for Commercial. We're going to run to RFD for supper with Leah. Anyone want to join us? We'll be arriving around 6 PM.

Let me check my other computer calendar. Unfortunately I was working from home today and the PS went blooey and I ran out of battery. So I need to go into the office tomorrow and use my docking station.

I'll see if I can get off work early that day, though I have a major project due, so I'm not too hopeful.

I'll probably be on the road. :( If there's a chance I'll be driving through RFD or MSN (so I can fly), I'll give you a call.

Looks very good for me. I have a 4pm conference that I am always looking to blow off and this would be the best excuse. I usually work from home on Wednesday too so getting to the airport will be real easy.

Grant, what would you think about meeting me at 06C? I could fly down from 10C pick you up there and then we could go off to KRFD. Pick up time would be say 5pm lcl?

That sounds good to me! But what does working from home Wednesday have to do with a Thursday flight?:dunno:

Grant/Scott - got any ideas for where to eat? or a preference on food style? Leah is trying to think of somewhere for us all to go.

Everyone else - are you coming!?

I don't really know of any places expect the McDonald's that is close the avionics place. RFD is not a place I fly in for food, just fuel over at North American

Leslie might be interested in coming, too. Scott, I don't know that she'd fit with us in the Cherokee. She's closer to Clow than I am, so may actually head down there and do it as a training flight. She needs to renew her night currency with the FBO, anyway.

ok ill just make Leah pick then :) All I asked her was that we dont go to Beefaroo :vomit:

Tony,

I should be close to done by then with the interior. I'm planning to work thrusday and it might be a good time for a test flight. I'll let you know.

Does the student have to go to RFD?
Schaumburg is better food, or even Watertown.

The most powerful force there is. And i thought it was the cheap fuel !B)

There's some decent food in Rockford but it's not close to the airport. There's a large selection of restaurants on State Street between Perryville and I-39. Maybe the FBO will let you borrow a car.

I believe the extra attractions :)blowingkisses:) at RFD is what is drawing Tony there.
roger that

ok mari. we'll have leahs car but will probably have to caravan with a crew car.

yep! leah and i are going there for supper tonight. weve eaten there before and it is good. thursday will also be a supper deal so we should definitely consider it. thanks mari!

ok how bout this:

Student and I should be leaving Ames at 4, we expect 2 hrs enroute. Scott requests that we use the FBO with the L39s (National??). Leah has a little subaru. Scott, Grant, and Leslie will probably want to get a crew car. We can Caravan up to Thunder Bay. Should be a good time for all! Plan on meeting by 6:30 PM?

Grant are you going with Leslie are still with me??
Huh? :)

I'm still planning to go with you. Not sure yet if Leslie's planning on going. If she does, I MIGHT head out with you and back with her, depending on her W&B issues (e.g. is she with an instructor in a Hawk or a Skylane, or is she solo).

R U folks going this coming weekend? I'm headed up that-a-way the weekend of the 27th (week after next).

Best,

Dave

we're going tomorrow Dave. sadly week after next is Finals so i'll be sticking around Ames to study (har har) that weekend.

Scott/Grant/Leslie - My student and I will be in N51582, an ole 172P. See you tomorrow evening. in the rare case we might not make it, i will post here by 4 PM.

fife one fife two niner one zero zero eight niner

It seems to be some kind of code. I am going to pull out my old Lil' Orphan Annie codebook and try to break this one.:)

I will try to get the club Cherokee. A starter is acting up on the Apache. I will call Scott. Thank God I already have his number and don't have to break these codes!:)

ok looks like the weather should be OK. See you all at North American, RFD, about 6:30!!

Ok lets finalize the time and place. I don't have you cell # on my phone, I must have forgotten to save it last time, I'll PM you mine.

North American, y'all are stopping there? There's a cute young girl in nursing school there at the front desk; say hi for me. Same age as one of my nieces! Last time through, she wanted to know how far it was to Hawaii--we showed her on the Garmin <g>. Just remind her of the distance if you see her. No doubt in my mind she'll get there one day.

Best,

Dave

Hi, all. Well, things are getting done here at work, but with the current stack of deadlines, I’m getting beat like a drum in the process. The beatings will likely continue until well into the evening, so I’m pretty certain that I won’t be able to make it to Rockford. :( But, I have to work so Grant can fly in the style to which he's become accustomed  (just kidding!), so here I am.

Looks like you’ll have some lovely night VFR time; please enjoy it for me, and bring back some wonderfully decadent dessert…..

Well, if his name is Brandon (the only employee we saw), he really didn't live up to his advance billing. :)

I brought you carrot cake.

It looks delicious.

Ooops, no, I forgot to bring you desert. Sorry! :blowingkisses:
LOL!

JK!

And, for the record, it was well after 7PM when she text messaged me saying she was leaving the office. We were on our 20 minute drive from the airport to the restaurant Mari suggested! She wasn't kidding when she said it wasn't near the airport. It would probably have been closer to fly into Poplar Grove!;)

But the crew car was a very nice new(er) Chevy Impala? Malibu?

We were pleasantly surprised when, as we were waiting for Tony to land, who should walk in but Ed Fred and his passenger, also named Brandon. He was apparently coming to check on me to see that I was wearing my 6Y9 hat. Well, he was disappointed, because I was wearing my Prellwitz Air hat tonight.

Scott will post a picture that Brandon (the employee) took of Tony, Scott, me, and Ed Fred in front of one of the nice jets that they refurbish at North American. Sweet!

As we were leaving Rockford on this gorgeous night for flying, we heard Ed Fred talking with Rockford Departure as he climbed to 11,500 for his flight back across the top of O'Hare's airspace (and Lake Michigan). Scott dropped me off at Schaumburg and headed back to Galt.

A good time was had by all!

was great seeing you all. Tom enjoyed supper with the group, as did I. Easy flight home with nice tailwinds. GS up around 125 knots was welcome.

Ed - Did Chicago Approach actually answer you on the handoff? I was amazed that you got that.

Not only did I get it, but they gave me traffic advisories for traffic at 11k and 12k, and turned me over to Chicago Center. And I was not vectored at all. Call be the BravoMaster I guess.
