Quick guys, this is for tomorrow (Friday) night. I need a restaurant recommendation in San Diego near(ish) to the convention center. The restaurant must be very high end, no constraint on cost or cuisine. What is out there? (My wife is out there on business and her best client is in town...)

I highly recommend ROY's, at the Marriott Marina. It is part of the group of restaurants owned by one of Hawaii's best known chef's. It is an Hawaiian Fusion, great food!
I ate there about 10 days ago, and it was phenom!

That is tough as there are a ton of tourist type restaurants that masquerade as fine dinning in that area.

If you do not mind a cab ride I would really recommend a trip up to LaJolla. Once there I really like Jack's, it is an Italian place.

Close to downtown San Diego Betrand's Mister A is pretty good but a little pricey for what it is. The wine list is good as is the ambiance.

How about La Mille Fleurs ( 6009 Paseo Delicias, Rancho Santa Fe, CA 92067)? It is a bit of a drive but the last time I was there (a few years ago) the food was fantastic and they even had a Trokenbarren Auslese to go with desert.

edit: google says it's a 34 min drive (21 miles) but it is worth the drive.

I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

Here's an on-line description:
Picture a romantic retreat in the French countryside where days conclude with glowing fireplaces and elegant meals, and you have the essence of Mille Fleurs. The restaurant, which is located on a small estate off a windy road in Rancho Santa Fe, offers a warm and charming atmosphere that plays host to stunning haute cuisine. Chef Martin Wosele’s menu, which changes daily, delicately melds European culinary traditions with local California ingredients. The result is sensational and exquisite fine dining which, as evidenced by numerous awards and national recognition, makes Mille Fleurs one of the most significant dining establishments in San Diego.

I'm not sure where they went. I passed all the recommendations (Scott's was the last I had time to send....) and even as I type this she is working on the appetizers.....

I'll let you know where she went!

And the winner was Arrivederci, an Italian (duh!) restaurant a cab-ride away. Cash only, and the report is excellent food!

Thanks for the help, guys. Your input is always valuable even if the decision goes in a different direction.
