I'd like to remove the wheel pants (mains and nose) to clean the wheels and tires well. The mains seem easy enough, but the nose not so much. Looks like you have to lift up the nose, remove the wheel and then slip it off. Any tricks/tips to doing this?

Thanks.

Nope..remove the nose wheel and slip it off, of course you know to remove the little plate on top with the four screws. Two ways to jack it up. One is a jack under each wing and a weight hanging from the tail, the other is a jack under the nose behind the cowling with a thick block of wood across the underside ribs. Remember to activate the hand brake with this method.

Only if you want to reuse the nose wheel pants, otherwise, sawzall;)

Call your A/P. Write check.

When you don't know what you are doing, don't do it.

Tom didn’t you tell me to just put a couple 100lb dumbbells on the stabilator?

You probably don't need to completely remove the nose pant just to clean the wheels and tires. There should be two bolts on each side of the pant where it screws into the nose fork. Just remove those four bolts and raise the pant. You can use some safety wire to temporarily hold it up while you clean. You may need to roll the airplane some to get good access to all sides for cleaning. Reinstall when you're finished.

Yea maybe I will do that. Or just have Tom come take it off for me.

Proving you shouldn't be doing any maintenance.

Actually, I know a third way:

I picked one up (pun intended) at harbor freight for $70. Cloth strap around the prop hub. Works like a charm.

With the mains properly inflated, a ratchet strap on the tail tiedown ring will do a pretty good job of raising the nose.
