This came up in the "Misdiagnosed Sleep Apnea" thread:

I didn't realize there were at-home sleep studies until that thread. I've been on this SI for around 15 years. I'm one of those people that doesn't fit the profile, but my sleep study was positive and I know it wasn't even close to marginal. Since then, I've intentionally lost about 40 pounds (around 200-210 down to 170).

If I do a DIY study and the results are negative for OSA, what's the process for getting out of that SI? My current SI renewal comes up in Nov '25, and my next Class III exam is Nov '26.

It needs to be a type 2 Study, Matt, the one with all the wires in your hair, so it can tell when you're really asleep.
FAA will not accept a type 3 study for the dissolution of a sleep apnea SI.

Once approved you continue to have to report yearly for three years from your doc as to no symtoms and tha that you have maintained your wt. loss....B4 you are let go cleanly.

Process: you send it in well before six months prior and you keep using CPAP until the re-authorization letter arrives.

Thx.

Sounds like the type 2 is good for screening for a first time. Just not for this case where there’s already an SI.
