Is it my imagination, or is message traffic way down on the red board?

Apparently when even iPad prices are deemed "non aviation CLOSED!!!" it gets a little boring around there, you can only argue and be pedantic so much about how to change oil in a 172. Oh well.

After 48 years I dropped out of AOPA. They offered me a free hat or airport directory if I paid up. Both those things are in the outhouse at Johnson Creek. So, sorry, I don't need them.

I guess if enough if us buy jets, we can feel like our message is being communicated, someday.

Is it my imagination, or is message traffic way down on the red board?

I was thinking the same thing, it seems only a few posts per hour, which is pretty light traffic compared to a year or so ago. :dunno:

I predict the final post on the Redboard will be ,"flying is a privilage, not a right, the privilage is revoked for all y'all!"

With the recent news of the IRS targeting opposing viewpoints, it is no longer safe to express opinions about:

medical certification
regulations
unwarrented searches of aircraft
ramp checks
ad infinitum

... I dropped out of AOPA.
Yeah, me too. The red board is about the only thing I miss (a little).

My guess is the people giving up on AOPA are in the relatively small minority that is paying attention, hence probably participating on the boards. So maybe a disproportionate effect?

It would be interesting to see the membership numbers and trend.

I would not assume that the post counts on the message board could be extrapolated to the membership numbers of the parent organization. There are things that could affect the former that don't have anything to do with the latter.

As I understand it, using a tax exempt organization for political purposes endangers its tax exempt status. If it is proven that one side of the political spectrum was being preferentially targeted for enforcement, that certainly would be improper, but that doesn't translate into "It's not safe to express opinions" as a general statement, IMO.

Re: Surprised by the quiet
Just maybe we are not surprised/shocked by these kinds of events anymore.

If their goal was to desensitize the sheeple about 4th amendment destruction, it seems to be working......along with the attacks on the 1st and 2nd amendments it seems.

Or maybe if you speak up on forums like these, the IRS will make sure you are audited. After all, anything that has to do with defending the constitution seems to be a target of the ruling elite.

Seems I'm not the only one with reservations about expressing opinions.:D

Have you been using a tax exempt organization for political purposes?

Don't get me wrong: I'm a firm believer in "Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty," but if we exaggerate every government malfeasance into a major conspiracy, we'll intimidate ourselves out of exercising our Constitutional rights, and drive ourselves nuts in the process.

Here's an article about the IRS monitoring social media for mentions of nonpayment or underpayment of taxes, but it seems only common sense to me that if you're doing that, you shouldn't publish it to the world.

This is a little more concerning, however:

"The American Civil Liberties Union has also expressed qualms about IRS secrecy. That group filed a Freedom of Information Act request for documents explaining whether the IRS always obtains search warrants to read email and other electronic communications. "Unfortunately, while the documents we have obtained do not answer this question point blank, they suggest otherwise," wrote Nathan Freed Wessler, a staff attorney at the ACLU."

I haven't been there since the Anthony's Bicycle episode. haven't missed it, either.

Well, if it wasn't for "Hangar Talk" POA would probably be just as dead as RB. What does that tell you ?

I think it is refreshing that we can talk about non aviation topics here. Maybe Pilots are more polite or whatever, but I think I get flamed here less than some other forums that I have posted on about other topics, including those that incite emotions such as religion and politics.

The NA keeps the place lively. If you don't want to read about the latest ipad or what Justin Beeber had for lunch don't click on the thread. Novel concept. :D

Yep, I get my hat handed to me now and then, but come back for more, that's life. POA is a reflection of the real world, IMHO.
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Ah yes... The infamous Bicycle Wars!!

I stopped doing the Red thing after they banned MooneyDude for telling it like it is to NomexAssholiness.

BTW... Anthony is doing well these days. We get updates from him every now and then on that board of a different color.

That's good to know. Personally, I thought the impromptu hat passing was one of the nicer things I'd ever been part of online, mainly because it was completely spontaneous. Anthony never asked for it, but people responded anyway.

That the RB mods got their panties in a wad over it was just plain stupid.

I thought he was suspended, not banned. In any case, he deliberately violated forum rules in order to force closure of a thread he didn't like. That's a lot more than "telling it like it is."

Don't know as I left the Red board last year! I would bet traffic is down on all forums for many reasons....

It's summertime and frankly there are better things to do outside then spending hours on Forums. Didn't your Mother tell you to go outside and play

AOPA's direction under Fuller and it's pathetic Forum moderation policy has left a bad taste in member's mouths. Many have canceled their memberships and / or moved onto other forums, Blue, Purple, Green,,,

And lastly, sign of the times. GA's numbers dwindle a little more every year and this has rolling impact on all things aviation, including Forums.

Your mileage may vary....:wink2:

Is there a green board? If so, where?

The Green Board is a joint venture run by the Sierra Club, Greenpeace and Earth First.....
You need to live in San Francisco and fly a glider and ride a bike to the airport so you can fly said glider......... Oh yeah.......... You need to harness 27 Magpies together to pull the glider into the air too.... NO fossil fuel burning devices can launch the glider..:nonod:...

:rofl::lol:;)

Actually, you're allowed to foot launch as long as you only eat organic vegan food.

Your chariot awaits.
