Any recommendations for overhaul shops for a Lycoming 0-360? We are based in California, but assume that is not a limiting factor.

I had my Lycoming O-360 (A4A) overhauled by LyCon. 25k basic overhaul cost. Various available optional witchcraft will take it to $33k. I opted for maximum witchcraft and my engine dynos at 202HP. They do good work and their reputation keeps them busy. It took 8 months for the overhaul to be complete.

How long ago. The past two years have been crazy with getting parts and backlog for machine work. We were told 6 months for a 182 engine I am involved with. We are 12 months and still waiting. I know of 2 or 3 other planes that have been down that long as well from various engine shops. If you don't want your plane down for a year or more, I would recommending someplace that will do an engine exchange. So you have the new engine sitting there before you take the old one off. May take just as long, but unless your engine is unairworthy you can continue to fly until you have a replacement engine to mount.

Even then one I am aware of one that was down for 6 months waiting for a gasket required to finish the engine install after he had the engine.
