They know, but they are using a poor reference to define the mass which, in turn, messes up the definition for the mole. The mole, in it's current definition, is a derived constant based on the kilogram. If the kilogram changes, the mole does too.

More like no one cared. This is nothing when you consider that a little of 10 years ago last month the moon was ripped out of the earth's gravitational field due to a build of radiation from the nuclear waste dumps we put there. Those poor people on Moonbase Alpha. I wonder how they are doing?
