Just upgraded my iMac to Mavericks. Why the hell would Apple make the mouse wheel backwards???

God this company is annoying. Easy (not intuitive) fix, but they even have the nerve to call backwards "natural."

Well, for those that haven't used a computer yet, the way we've been doing isn't actually intuitive.

When a bunch of us are reviewing/editing stuff displayed on the big screen, we are always talking about scrolling up or down and the person running the laptop often gets it backwards from what we wanted.

There is plenty I don't like about apple but I never wanted to pick up the CPU and smash it as much as when I had a windows platform ;). For me, I will never go back to windows.

Maybe it's more intuitive when you are using a trackpad. I have never had a mouse for either Mac.

I found it backwards at first, but even after decades of use the other way, it became intuitive fairly quickly.

I think it makes it easier to go back and forth to an iPad or other touch screen device. And I assume that was what Apple was thinking.

Given that there's a generation of new users coming online who probably started with an iPad/tablet touch interface, it really makes quite a lot of sense.

It's a touchscreen thing, comes from iOS. If you think about dragging the content instead of the scrollbar, it makes sense.

That said, I hate it, and I think it was idiotic of Apple to flout desktop "standards" for what seems like a hobgoblin of little minds.

You can change it back in the Preferences screen. As pointed out, it actually does make sense the way it is. I left it and eventually got used to it.

You must have jumped several versions of the OS. The behavior first showed up in Lion or Mountain Lion I think.

I just don't understand why Safari gets more unreliable in each successive release.

C:/ DOS

I miss doing things this way.

Me too. :yesnod: My father, used the command line and his father used the command line and by golly I will die using the command line. :D

Think of it as a Yoke! You scroll up for down and scroll back for up....

I didn't realize it was backwards... I just thought my work PC was broke!

Windows at work, Apple at home. I wish Microsoft would put in an option to let me flip their mouse wheel to "natural."

Hey, I put 100 workstations in hotel rooms used mainly for IT managers and execs back in '86. Most had never touched a graphical interface.

Our favorite help desk call out was to explain that when the help guide said to move the cursor on the screen using the mouse, it didn't mean to actually roll the mouse around the screen... roll it on the mouse pad sir. You're welcome.

I'm a long time windows person who has a Mac as well. I'll never completely get comfortable with it but I like it a lot. Apple has been crowned... bow to the king.

So the scrolling matches scrolling on the iPad.

Just go into System Preferences->Mouse and click the TOP FIRST box to change it.

Jeez, Nick, compared to what Microsoft does in Windows, quitcheer whining.
