RDU ATC'r Dead After Collision

I sure hope the driver of the Taurus made very good use of the twenty seconds or so gained with that little maneuver... and I hope they never get another good night's sleep. :mad3:

It scares me to know that every time I drive, or cross the street on foot, I might encounter someone who would apparently rather die- or kill- than take less than a minute to be a little safer. What a world. :nonod:
 
BTW...as with animals, many times it simply is better to hit what is in front of you.

It IS the Taurus that started the chain of events, but it was the bus swerving that killed the guy.

True, but the unethical choice was made by the driver who blew the stop sign. It's like with the hot-shots who like to slalom through traffic: is that OK if you decide "well, the drivers I cut off will just have to make the perfect decision in that split-second I give them... not my problem" ?

If you all stay in the right lane, I wouldn't have to slalom. :nono:

I wonder if the bus driver will be charged with vehicular manslaughter? I suppose it's possible that his only choices were to swerve (possibly killing the jeep driver) or hit the Taurus. I'll bet the swerve was just a reaction without much thought for the alternative consequences.

If the facts play out that the Taurus did indeed cause the accident by violating the rules of the road, I would like to see the driver of the Taurus charged with vehicular manslaughter, or if possible, 2nd degree.

Around here, you will find sub 70mph drivers in the left lane quite often on the interstates. So no, they would not be doing the speed limit, but they would be in violation of the law by not staying right except to pass.

Me too, but I suspect that the bus driver was nearly equally at fault even though it's pretty likely that there wouldn't have been a collision had the Taurus waited at the stop sign for the bus to pass. From here it's hard to say how close the Taurus was to the bus when he pulled out, there may have been plenty of room for the bus to avoid rear ending the Taurus without leaving his lane. BTW at this point the issue of the Taurus rolling the stop is only a claim by the bus driver.

Exactly. There may not even be a green Taurus involved.

Agreed however the problem is that the taurus driver would deny everything and get let off the hook. At worst he'd get a slap on the wrist for running the stop sign.

Personally I would have remained in control of the bus and run the taurus over and let him deal with the consequences of his actions. Heck, I almost centerpunched a police car while driving 5 tons of motorhome two years ago. It was either squish him in a controlled impact or crash into dangerous terrain out of control.

In that case, hunt 'em down! Especially if the independent witness witnessed the running of the stop sign.
 
Nothing stings quite like an inconsiderate driver saving less than a minute and killing someone....or causing someone to get killed....either way it sucks....
