RAM iPad mount

I am looking for a solution to mount an iPad on the bare co-pilot site, and would prefer not to drill holes in case we put actual instruments there. 3M VHB tape is one option, but I came across the below product that RAM just released. It's a magnetic mount. The obvious concern is the magnetic compass. Has anyone used a magnetic mount? I'm thinking of buying one and just moving it around to see if it affects the compass or anything else. Our magnetometer for the TXi is in the tail so I'm not worried about that. It says it has 6 N35 (?) magnets in it and is good for 2lbs static. The iPad weights half that, so it should I hope be OK in typical turbulence.

Is your cockpit made of steel? Im coming up short on what you plan to stick that to.

I have Nato mounts stuck to the glare shields of both planes. No problems with steam gauges or G3X Touch. Or panel compass. The problem you'll have with RAM is finding ferrous metal to hold it and the leverage add from attaching their arms to the ball. I have a Ram yoke mount. Nato works better.

You spent all that money on a TXi and probably a GTN and the rest of the works. What do you even need an Ipad in there for?

Left radio stack is GFC600, GTN750, GTR225, right stack is nothing. Some people put a second GTN750 but it’s less capable in many ways and way more expensive than an iPad. Garmin Pilot will show EIS graphs and ADS-B, and I can transfer flight plans, scribble clearances, and file from it. It also controls the XM on the GDL which serves as a backup GPS, AHRS, and WX deceiver. Not to mention the other stuff an iPad does, podcasts, digital POH, checklists, etc.

I retired the iPad and use my iPhone on a Nato. Works great.

I use the RAM mount with suction cup mount on windshield side
works great but occasionally comes unstuck causing my iPad mini to fall to the floor (carpeted)
trying to figure out what I could adhere a NATO mount to in order to duplicate the location but not put the goopy 3M adhesive on my window

Nope. Dental floss and elbow grease gets it off but not my idea of a fun afternoon.

Good point, didn’t think it would be strong enough but worth a try.
