Just curious, during a preflight I always check the prop, hub and spinner. Standard stuff like nicks in the prop, spinner solid and attached, no excess oil spun out on the prop blades, etc. I’ve always given a light tug on the blades to see if there is any movement in the hub. And I’ve never noticed any. At least in memory.
Flying an O-470 equipped plane at the moment and just noticed the slightest bit of play in the hub. So little that I can imagine I could have been missing it for years.
Just curious, because I don’t know. What would you expect to feel? Exactly zero “play”? Or is there a need for a little bit for heating and cooling expansion/contraction? Weird that I’ve never had a discussion about this. But no time like the present.
