Plane lands in Caesar Creek Lake, Waynesville, OH 3/16

Won’t surprise me if it was a seaplane based on the state of “journalism” today. (Even if there’re prohibited to splash in:rolleyes:).

Cheers

"WCPO Photojournalist Michael Benedic was on the scene and talked with the pilot who said a mechanical failure caused the crash."
I hate when that happens. Besides a small engine, this has a small N-number. Shallow water near shore.

I’ve flown around that area lots of times. Unless they were pretty low, there’s several places to put it down besides the water including Red Stewart, Caesar Creek Soaring Club and plenty of open fields.

Cheers

Yeah, I'm guessing they were pretty low to have to land in the water. Plenty of fields as well. Love the lake though and Red Stewart, boating/fishing and flying both so close together :)

Yeah, it's generally a pretty flat area, it will be interesting to see just where he plopped. Hopefully it wasn't a wheel-skiing incident.
Edit: they had to be very, very low not to make it to a reasonably flat area. There is some forest close to the lake, but open areas within a mile.

I saw a statement from one of the fire departments in the area saying that there were no injuries and that no fluids leaked into the lake. Makes me wonder if it was fuel starvation if there were no fluids leaked... That or they just wanted to cover up any 100LL leakage into the lake...

Well, unless it had a sealed battery, inverted oil and fuel system and/or empty tanks, it leaked something.

Wilmington's water intake is nearby which led to the media concern, but like I told people here every summer weekend the sum of what all the boats on that lake leak is probably more than that little Chief even held.

I actually had to wait for Chester Township's fire apparatus at the 380/73 intersection for this crash. At the time I just assumed it was a vehicle wreck on I-71. Quite shocking to find out what it really was.

Chief has no electrical system, so just 15 gal of fuel (could be MoGas) 4 qts of oil.
