Checking protection will do nothing... once it's in, your protection probably thinks it's OK. In fact, assuming your "protection" actually protects you is a big problem. At this point in time, every antivirus product does very little to protect you. It's because the target has changed from your computer (browser, etc) to YOU. If YOU click on something (pop-up, email link, etc), your antivirus program has to abide by your actions. If you clicked on it, it must be OK. 99% of your protection is between your ears. Be super careful what your click on. If you feel like you've stepped in a pile of Internet poo, run something like Malwarebytes that specializes in cleaning up the mess afterwards.
The original link posted may have a minor chance of affecting people, if they follow link and click into other "MyWay" links, it's likely you'll eventually get pop-ups of links that could lead you into an opportunity to get infected.
