Plane crash in Johnston County, NC

Definitely not a day I would have wanted to be flying in unless I had to.
 
I flew over the hill this morning. Was great most of the time. We encountered unexpected severe clear air turbulence on a couple brief occasions
 
Commercial student and CFI. Both injured but alive. Appears to be power loss just after takeoff.

Pure speculation on my part based on the news video, but it sure looks like the plane was flown under control into the top of a line of trees that took the wings off and absorbed enough energy to make the impact survivable.

I canceled a flight because of the winds but from preliminary reports it doesn't sound like it was a factor, unless something like shear leading to a stall spin.
