...and I'm not sure who got the better of the other! lol

PJ and the 1940 Air Museum here at Hobby hosted a "Cessna Day" at their monthly 'Wheels and Wings'. (I always wondered why wings gets second billing)

Despite cool temps and a stiff breeze from 010-040@10-20G25, a number of aircraft showed up!

Let's see... a Cessna Sales Rep showed up with a brand new C206 (got an extra half mil burning a hole in your pocket?), The soon to be raffled C140 was there, I showed in the 310, and another 310 showed up later, a C172 (impersonating an USAF T-41A), a nice 172RG, a very clean 177Cardinal came in from AUS, and a plane I had never seen before... A 1963 C205.

It is basically a C210 (older version) with wing struts, and fixed landing gear!

Quite a few people braved the cold wind to come out and check out the aircraft, with lots of father /son combos...

Oh ya... the local VW club had a few bugs there, too. ( ;) )

Back to the story.... PJ opted to fly back with me to 33M's temporary digs at T41 (LaPorte). He handled the radios, and once off the ground, it was his airplane... Being only his second time with hands on the controls of a twin, he had things reasonably under control for the whole 4-5 minutes it took for us to get into the pattern at T41. He did admit to me that it was going to take a bit for him to get used to approach speeds that were higher than cruise speeds in the C172.

On the ground, tied down, cleaned up, and on the way back to the Museum to get PJ's truck.

He is now the 2nd POA member to meet 'The Beast'! He and Pookies are part of an exclusive club! hahaha

awesome! I can't wait for my turn :)

Yes, "the beast" was definitely a joy to fly for the 4-5 minutes it took to get over to T41... basically, you can see it as soon as you get above 200' AGL on takeoff from Hobby. And yes, it will definitely take some getting used to for the higher speeds. Ric had to keep reminding my to keep it above Vyse until we were on final, I kept wanting to slow it down in the pattern! But Ric took over on final and made a nice landing.

Pictures? Here are a few:

And attached is a picture of all of the Cessna's on the ramp we had at one point in the day. It was a true "family reunion" as the only model we had two of was the 310!

BTW Ric - it is called "Wings & Wheels" - Wings has top billing, as it should be. And thanks for the ride!

As you can see from the pic's, the old terminal/ tower is a beautiful example of art decco design. While the exterior is in pretty fair shape, the interior is just about to begin it's rennovation.
Fundraising has been an ongoing thing, and will be for some time. I can only imagine how great it will look when restored to its original grandeur!

The museum already holds quite a bit of incredible memorabilia- from the early airlines of Texas and the history of Trans Texas Airways to it's current name, Continental.

I would strongly recommend anyone in the area stop by during one of the 'Wings and Wheels' and have a wander about. It is certainly worth the effort!
