Every Piper piston airframe I have seen whistles when dirty. Stand under one on final and you know what I’m talking about. They sing a standard tune.

Why?

Can confirm. My Comanche whistles on final.
My Grumman made more of a moaning noise like a low rumble.
@AggieMike88 flies a C-182 that is the loudest whistling plane I have ever been in.

The Cirrus has either a very mild hum or can be dead silent depending on landing method.

Hehehehehe... I use that as an aural way to confirm airspeeds. The appearance and pitch of the whistle changes as we slow down.

And now that I think of it, the Doctor A36 doesn't have a whistle....

Seminoles especially have a very peculiar whistle to them, clean or dirty, from an observers perspective. I can pick them out flying overhead without seeing them. It's most pronounced when they're at pattern speeds.

My PA-17 is so noisy it could be singing the opening to "Tannhauser" and I wouldn't be able to hear it.
