En-Route
Having driven a pilot friend and a student pilot passenger to Concord, NH so the former could PIC my 'Hawk back to Wiscasset after its upgrades to IFR Certified, I was returning via U.S. Route 1 through all of Southern Maine's resort towns. It's just amazing what one can see walking back to the motels, etc.: all shapes and sizes. In Kennebunk I saw a fellow looking for a ride and I stopped to assist. He is from Arizona but is here for a summer's visit with his sister. Back home he's building a two seat kit plane; he's PP-ASEL. And he told me that his sister is getting ready to retire from the FAA.
When I inquired of her position he said that she's an ATC at Portland.
Well, that's interesting. I wonder if she knows Mark Haskell, a pilot contact who works there. If she does, have her tell Mark that Jerry Crute says 'Hello'."
"I'll ask her." So her pulled out his cell phone, called her and asked. Next, he handed me the cell phone and she said,"Mark's on duty; hold on and I'll transfer you."
She did, and Mark and I talked for about ten minutes as he conducted business until he told me he had a hot one and had to cut off. I hadn't seen Mark for a couple years since he moved his plane from Wiscasset to Portland.
SMALL WORLD! If I can find the photos of his bird you'll see them below.
And my bird is back in my hangar. A great day!
