I started flight training in April 2023, and tried to get my medical around July, but got denied because of my past diagnoses of severe anxiety/panic disorder/mild depression. I had been off my medication for two years. I was accepted to LETU University which is known to have a great flight program, but decided to go to a small community college to get my general studies done there before I transferred. I did not like college at all so I decided to go to work in manufacturing while still flying once a week (due to work and no medical). I have to retake my neurocognitive test to obtain my medical, but I am also thinking on becoming an electrition as a backup just in case, does anyone have pointers on college or trade while trying to become a pilot?

Having a backup is a smart idea, in case medical now or in the future jeopardizes your legality to fly, or the industry goes thru a down cycle. Do whatever else you love for a degree or certificate that can employ you and pay for flying lessons later. Just one of many ways to do it.

Becoming an electrician will make you enough money to fly recreationally. Plus, AI will not take that job over any time soon.

Make being an electrician your first choice and flying a hobby. More money at entry level, not subjects to the vagaries of FAA medical, and pretty solid through good times and bad. And there is potential for really big bucks. We have a friend who’s an electrical contractor; his air-conditioned 206 is probably the least expensive of his toys.
