What? They don't make 'em wear a toque for the ID picture?

That's pretty slick, especially if it doubles as a passport as they think it does.

Would be mighty convenient.

It doubles as a passport in the check-in readers at the airport because they have a similar encoding scheme on the barcode. I don't think it functions as a passport for customs, though. At least the article didn't say anything to make me believe it would.

And it wouldn't fit in my wallet, so I doubt I'd always have it with me, like I do my plastic certificate.

It's not a passport. It's just a more secure form of licensing and is a pain to carry around now. The old paper license and medical cert fit nicely in my wallet but once the new one gets here (any day now) I'll have to think about where it is and go get it before I fly. Makes spur-of-the-moment flying almost impossible. If we get caught flying without the license we can be fined.

It's supposed to make forgery more difficult and has more pages for medical renewals. I don't know if forgery was really an issue. It also has all the flight licenses in it, but my Aircraft Maintenance Engineer's license won't be part of it. That's still a plastic card.
