I was on my way from the Peach Springs toward St. George, UT. at 8,500 FT. when I snapped these pictures out my windows.

There is a no fly zone on the Grand canyon chart, but it only goes up to 8,000 ft. I was level at close to 8,500. I was snapping pictures, as I was flying all by myself back to Or. Essie was up to Oregon for a doctors appointment and was to come back to AZ. But she couldn't come back, so I was headed that way in the trusty 182 Cessna.

When I left St George I had to go a little higher to get over and around some of the High stuff in NV.

The outside air temp was about 38 degrees F. and I stayed at 10,500. until I let down at Ely,NV for fuel. $5.20 a gal. 35.5 gal. OUCH! The sky was CAVU and solid as a rock.

Nice pictures. I think that's the old St. George airport. I heard the new one opened 5 miles or so south.

Funny you should mention that I was just looking at my pictures and I said to myself what is that runway in my picture and if you look closely you can see the old runway just under my prop. The other picture is of just the newer St. George runway. I landed at the old one to get fuel on my trip down to AZ.

Bob:
May I have your permission to copy/save the St. George area photos? My brother lives in St. George, having moved from Page, AZ to his wife's home city. I'm sure they'd
enjoy seeing them. I'll await your reply.

Sure Harley do you need me to send you a bigger file than I can post on here or can you use these? You are welcome to use these if they will work. Bob

Thanks; the larger files would be preferable if it's not to be a problem. Andrew works for some huge dairy organization in St. George that distributes to a great portion of USA, as far east as Massachusetts. He drives doubles and triples between St. George and Las Vegas. The larger files will allow him and Doreen to closer pinpoint areas. Her family is one of the fuel(gasoline) distributors in that area.

I was going to stop and get some fuel at St. George, UT. but I had a little SSW tail wind and I just over flew the field at 8,500 and took this picture.

That field (SGU) was closed on Jan 13th. The new field is 5nm SE (DXZ), out in a valley. Glad you did not stop for gas. B)

I noticed you traveled on Friday the 28th? Any problems in the MOA between St George and Ely with a huge Red Flag in progress? Depending on your timing there were about 100 jets of various nationalities in the MOA.

I stayed out of the MOA I flew to an intersection and made a left turn to a VOR and then another right turn to go to ELY. No flying through any MOAs on that part of my flight. I thought it was strange when I heard someone landing at St George and gave a runway number of one nine. I thought to myself I was thinking the runway was 16-34 at St George.

Large files have been received, Bob, and thank you. I've not done anything with them yet, having spent the day dealing with storm conditions sent to us by the rest of the country. And it's supposed to get even worse on Wednesday.

HR

Two are of the larger size and one I didn't have the original large size so I had to send a smaller size.

Here's one large file you sent. You probably haven't checked your e-mail yet but I sent you this one after having reworked your original a bit(though without your permission).

(Now I'm going to bed [and get ready for the storm to get worse] )

Wow, That makes it look even better. Nice work and no problem about the permission part.

:o) Don't forget to hit the + button(left click) to bring it up to full size, and then scroll for the full view.

Sorry to take so long to get back to this thread. Thanks for taking the time to avoid the MOAs, they were busy.

I've had to KIO (knock it off) when a GA penetrated the MOA in the middle of 80+ jets marshaling for a Red Flag execercise. Lots of tax payer training dollars at work.
