What is the phrase you use when you want to tell the tower you can expedite your pattern off downwind to get in ahead of landing traffic. I have both asked and been asked but can't recall the phraseology right now.

Usually for me it comes from the tower in the form of "cleared to land, turn it towards the numbers" :D

When I flew my Arrow into Key West (KEYW), tower asked if I could accept a short approach(? - don't recall phrase used) to get in in front of an ATR on the approach. No prob, the Arrow loves to go down. Last time I asked I was a bit late and the opportunity had passed, tower said I should have asked earlier but my mental process was lagging a bit, I guess.

a lot of times flying into NASCAR International (KJQF, Concord Regional) they'll say "eman1200, expedite your base" and that basically means it's time for a steep descending turn to put the wheels down on the centerline now. I've never asked for that though.

oh, and the first time I heard that when I was training I was thinking.....well, I can't really go any faster lol but then my instructor explained it. by the time he was done 'splaining tower asked "eman, do u want to extend downwind or expedite?" lol. I said nah, we'll expedite and I nailed the quick turn and landing. hhmm, I wonder if I have that vid saved somewhere, lemme look.

Ask the tower for a short approach.
