The weekend was perfect flying weather and we did some puddle jumping in New York and Rhode Island: Westerly, RI to Block Island, RI to Shelter Island, NY and Fishers Island, NY.

The landing strip on Shelter island is short and quirky. With a high tree line and East Hampton's jet traffic next door, this is a throw back farm strip to another era.

Also, some great planes at Block Island. Click for More.

Nice! One of my best friends has a house on Shelter Island right next to the grass strip. We had many a booze filled night out there. Fun times.

Never been to Shelter Island. Is the owner open to outsiders landing there?

Fishers Island holds a special place in my heart, because flying there was the first time I really realized how freeing flying is. Such a fun place to fly!

Also, how did you land at Shelter Island? Looks like it's private to me?

Amazing Views!!

I love flying into Block Island. I just did it a few weeks ago to go to the beach.

Shelter Island was private when I used to hang out there, but that was before I started flying. A long time ago.

Its still private but an amazing group of local pilots (SIPA - Shelter Island Pilots Association) run it

Isn't Fisher's Island awesome? It's like making a carrier landing from the east! It was a stop on my long solo XC!
