FAA processed my permanent license almost 2 weeks ago. Still hasn't shown up. Any idea how long it takes? Also when you get a new rating do you have to give up the card license for the temporary?

Keep the temp,

I'm still waiting on mine, check ride passed July 23

after every rating you fly on the temp until you receive your permanent cert.

It's not unusual for the temp to time-out before you receive your plastic. Don't worry about it unless you're needing to fly internationally.

Art, if you time out, you can ask your DPE who issued the white slip, to call and get you a handwritten extension. When AFS 600 is competent, they send you a fax on DOT stationery.....with a signature on it, o/w it falls to the DPE.

I passed my checkride on July 14th and I'm still waiting.

I was within a day of having my temp expire so I boogied over to the FSDO and they even had a rubber stamp to extend it. The perm one came before the original temporary would have expired though.

Wow. I passed mine on Aug. 14 and have been excitedly checking the mail every day. Guess I'll stop doing that for a while.

Yeah, you'll burn out soon.

I checked daily for my first plastic card, this time it comes when it comes

Most of mine took right at 30 days, the latest was about July 16th, so about 60 days.

It still amazes me just how inefficient a federal bureaucracy can be. The forms are all entered electronically, verified electronically and certified by the DPE electronically. That should trigger the automatic printing of the permanent card, leaving only the stuffing of the envelope up to a federal employee (although we know even THAT could be automated.). Yet, we wait months for this to happen.

Obamacare is going to be awesome. :yikes:

Right now, on a deferred exam, if an federal medical officer orders a certificate be issued, it's an additional six weeks before it goes out the door. That's after waiting ?how long? to get to review!!

My PP checkride was July 10 and it just showed up yesterday.

Congrats. With my situation, the FAA issued the temporary license as it was a conversion on July 8. Allegedly it was processed 10+ days ago. Still hadn't showed up.

Bruce, the DuPage FSDO issued mine as it was a conversion.

Don't tell me this. One of my best students ever got tripped up by a bad prescription and has spent eight months jumping through hoops. The final paperwork was submitted last week. If she has to wait six more weeks she's going to be one unhappy camper.

...why do you think I'm so busy....it's about getting it right on one pass through.....and getting authority to issue in the office. The rest is an eternity.

Absolutely right Doc. I can say that Doc Bruce was great getting it done the first time. The prep work that I had to go through and take the necessary tests so I could get it was done right was well worth it.

These things have always taken forever. When I earned my mechanic certificate back in 1980, it took about three months for the permanent certificate to arrive -- and back then, they were still just printed on paper, slipped into a window envelope, and mailed.

Doesn't happen too much these days with IACRA. The paper 8710-1's still have to go tye the FSDO for processing before they hit OKC, but that step is eliminated when IACRA is used.

Well well....

I received something in the mail today, about the size of a credit card, with the pictures of a couple of guys named Orville and Wilbur on the back. Finally....

I shouldn't have read this thread.... Now I'm all hyped up and checking the mail eagerly every day after work like Ralphie in A Christmas Story.

Woohoo! mine came in today. 2 days before the 2 month mark.

I just got updated in the database, so I imagine the plastic shouldn't be to far behind

Eh, I completed my ATP and MEI rides in February. 3rd temp should be here any day. Not sure where the incompetence lies; DPE, FSDO, both? I'm not holding my breath.
