PBS Inside - Oshkosh Air Show Wednesday 7/23

It aired a few months ago, but only on select stations.

The cameraman rode in a chase plane during the B2OSH flight with us last year. The P-51 crash unfortunately overshadows a bit too much of the video IMO. I have about 1.5 seconds of fame as they caught me landing. ;)

Downside? The editor used the term 'gaggle' while describing the arrivals and while cutting to a clip showing B2Osh. Wasn't too happy with that one! ;)

I bought the copy from the National Geographic website.

I set up the reminder as it's not yet showing up on the DVR guide. Oddly, it won't let you get reminders in advance of the day of broadcast.

It shows up if you have a TiVo. Accept no substitutes. :D

I'm digging a whole new world since I added a 1TB hard drive. I can only keep up to 1365 hours in SD or 165 hours of HD - more for compressed formats. That is notteenough. After all, I could view all of that in HD with only like 4 dedicated 40 hours weeks. I'll prolly add another 1TB or 1.5TB or 2 or 3TB drive in a few years. :D No, I'm not addicted at tall.

It is nice to go to to each of my 100+ season passes and set it to keep 25 or all copies, or keep them forever.

The biggest problem now is it can only record 2 shows at once plus download net content. There are only 24 hours in a given day. *sigh*

BTW, it'll do YouTube videos in the software being sent out right now.

I'm stuck with what this backwoods cable company offers. Customer service is overall better than Charter was but the service available bites on the cable side and it's more expensive. The internet side is twice as fast.

I still have the HP Media Center for the non-HD recordings to be manipulated as I wish. I can add an external antenna for HD reception to it but that goes away come next year. Oh well... It's not a big deal. I have what I need to satisfy my needs.

I'm not stuck on it as much as some of you techies. :)

For those poor sods (like me) who don't have HD, any idea when (or if) it'll be available for the unwashed heathens?

Oh, and Mike, I see 1TB drives (external with enclosure, even) for about $150. More viewing!

It should be on the regular PBS as well. HD channels are in addition to the regular broadcast channels.

That's what I thought, but I've not been able to find it.... At least not via Tivo! :)
Interesting... I thought it was just a matter of it not yet being listed. I went to the PBS site and did a search on my local station. It seems "Inside" is not being shown at neither of our local PBS stations. So much for getting any money out of me; not that I would in the first place. I almost never watch it.

You can get WTTW-DT (1 or 2) with an antenna, sir. You just need a digital tuner or to use your DTV coupon and buy a converter....oh, and you'll need an outdoor antenna from your home. :)

I'm sure the show will be on WTTW analog, too.

The cheap external drives like the Seagate (Maxtor) aren't fast enough.

In a moment of non-clarity I went with Rich's recommendation and bought a Hitachi Deskstar instead of my usual Seagate. for $213 or so. My reward was it was DOA. I got 3 day shipping in time for the weekend - two weekends back, then with the return and the re-ship and the 4th of July in between I got 17 day shipping.

As I write this I just had my first TiVo lock up since I figured out the issue was HDMI. It looked like a hard drive failure but it came back.

Well, I've had Comcast for about 11 years now, don't have a digital converter or an external antenna.. I've checked the three analog PBS stations I get and it's not listed on any of them. :(

Hard drive speed really doesn't matter much if you're using it for offline storage.

Weird. 1) Get a TV with a digital tuner (i.e. any made in the last 5 years) or buy a digital convertor box with your $50 coupon. 2) Connect the Comcast cable to it. Be amazed at the channel numbers that go up to 137.5 (many are dupes). 3) Find WTTW-DT and watch Wednesday night.

You don't need a cable box.

How do I know this works? I also have my cable going directly to the TV.

In this case, the external drive connects to the TiVo by an eSATA cable so it has to be as fast as any other SATA drive. Any decent SATA drive will work, even though there are some labeled as designed as DVR drives. Best as I've found out those have either slightly tuned software or merely a different label and model number, and are intended for commercial DVR applications. They cost about 10-20% more where you can find them. Reading the TiVo community they do fine with those listed models of desktop drives...for the Series 3 I have. An unhacked TiVo HD will only work with the Western Digital MyDVR 500Gb dive because TiVo only "certified" it and tightened down the software to only recognize that model. It's priced fairly competitively. You can even get it at Worst Buy.

I'm gonna come down there and drop it out the window if you don't get the Pilotcast up today. :D

I think Leslie ordered a coupon, but we haven't received it yet. The TV is an "old" one that I inherited from my Dad; I don't know if it's digital-capable. I guess I'm unclear on the difference between digital TV and HDTV. I thought they were synonymous, but maybe not. I think I have everything into the TV going through my Series 2 Tivo.

Ah, you're planning to hook it up directly to the Tivo. Forget what I said, then.

Mike, Methinks me knows what Kent wants for his b'day!
