Parallels vs VMWare

That pretty much says it all. Which one should I install so I can have XP on the Mac?

VMWare works with Jeppesen Garmin update! When I switched from Parallels it would not work with the skybound software. I don't know now since it has had several updates. My Windoze XP starts in about 10 seconds or less! Very stable. YMMV

I run VMWare 2 and can confirm this to be true for Vista.

I bought vmware and it seems SOOO SLOOOOW. When my new laptop comes in this week i'm buying parallels.

I use Parallels on my macbook pro. It's fine for the required use.

I have no experience with VMWare, but I might grab a copy just to fool around
with.

Depending on your need, I suspect that either will work ok.

I'm very new to the VM world, but virtualbox worked very nicely for me, and was very easy to set up. It's free too. Should have no problem running XP on a Mac OS.

That's not the mac version (windows and linux only), but it's a pretty good deal.

Well, my old mirrored VPS ran on top of Parallels. The new Cloud server runs on VMWare. This one's a lot faster. But it also has more resources, so it's not a fair comparison.

I never had any problems with Parallells, for what it's worth. It did what it was supposed to.

Its free, its just as good as Parallels, and its free. The way this type of software should be.

It's not just as good. It's good...but not just as good. There are things you can do with parallels that you can't with virtualbox without hacks and workarounds.

It fits a lot of situations...but it's not the same software.

I've yet to find anything it can't do. What can't it do?

Oh, and btw, if you don't need "instant boot" capabilities, you could always just use Bootcamp too.

To the best of my knowledge it doesn't boot a native bootcamp partition as a virtual machine inside of the host without hacks.

I have never tried. You're probably right. Parallels does that? That's pretty freaking sweet.

The new versions of both parallels and vmware do that. Yeah, it is pretty sweet. You can boot natively into the same windows as that you use for a virtual machine.
