Pre-takeoff checklist
I know I haven't posted here in quite awhile. I occasionally lurk, but life has just been so busy lately that I have trouble keeping up with multiple aviation boards. So I hope that this post doesn't seem too out-of-place.
Over the last few years, I've been very inspired by a good friend of mine and the struggle their family has gone through. Some of you probably know Andy (a mod over on the Purpleboard) and their amazing little girl, Abby. Abby was diagnosed with brain cancer at 18 months old and has successfully undergone surgery and radiation treatment twice now after a re-occurrence two years after the first.
Since then Andy has ridden in the Pan-Mass Challenge, a 192 mile bike ride over 2 days in August, raising money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Last year, another pilot friend joined Andy on the ride. This year, I've decided to stop saying "Maybe one of these years I'll ride with you", and commit to riding to do what I can to one day find a cure.
As if I needed any more motivation, a week before open registration, I found out my aunt had been diagnosed with stomach cancer. She is currently undergoing treatment in Boston, MA utilizing all the technology and research that donations, like yours, help to make the best possible outcome in a difficult situation.
In past years, I know Andrew Stanley has ridden, and some of the proceeds of the FlyBQ that Adam Z. hosts in May have gone towards this great cause.
100% of all donations donated to riders goes directly to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to help fund cancer research and treat current patients. donations are, of course, tax deductible as well.
I ask that you please read the story of why I ride and consider donating to this very worthwhile cause.
