Over the years my visors have fallen apart. Ordered new ones but they don't stay in place. Anyone have any tricks to get tighten them up?

I put Rosens in my aircraft and they work perfectly.

Five bucks worth of TAP Plastics smoke acrylic (they will cut it to shape) plus a bucks worth of aluminum painted black, and you can have sun visors for any aircraft you wish.

True, but my Rosens work perfectly every time, which is more than I can say for any kluged together contraption I might come up with. And sorry, but being able to see is pretty important in an airplane. Do whatever you want, I'll mind the store when it comes to aviation safety issues.

I just use a $6 baseball cap that works great. It can be adjusted all the way down for siesta mode.

I hate Rosens, at least in rentals. They soon start swinging wildly around and become completely useless, even hazardous.

On the other hand, I cannot imagine how a stock Cherokee visor can "come apart". I suppose it all comes to the type of plastic from which it was cut. The ones that I encountered tighten up by the screws that attach the clips. I'll try to take a picture this Saturday, which may enhance this discussion.

Great ideas gents, but I have the new visors so I am going to try to make them work. I will be in Muncie tomorrow and will ask the Piper experts of they have newer hardware.

I used a pipe cleaner, jammed into the socket. It worked pretty well.

Jeeze, the guy just wants to know how to keep his visors from sagging and all he gets is a bunch of self aggrandizing high fives that would cost him a couple of Franklins.

Your problem is probably with the mounts, if you can't get new ones look at maybe some JB-Weld and a rat-tail file to re-size or a setscrew. Even a wrap of tape might work as a temp fix. It may be as simple as roughing up the inner surface of the bearing with some sandpaper.

BTW - the sun visor in my Champ came out of a Airbus A-320 so I got you all beat

Thanks Silvair. I did try some tape to increase the size of the spindle the visor clamps to but is is a bit too much. I will figure out something, I was just hoping someone had already been through this and had a simple fix. When I do figure it out I might post it.

I wasn't joking, by the way - pipe cleaners, stuffed into the little area where the mount pivots keep it nice and tight, either up or down, depending on where I wanted it put.

If I strike out with Piper I may try that. I can see where that would provide the friction with out getting sticky like tape.

Good grief, the two pieces of metal that make up the visor hardware for the Piper cost almost $140 per side. The parts manager said mine were worn but didn't really need to be replaced. He gave me some thick tape with a Teflon coating that he said should do the trick. Key word here is gave. I used it when I got home and it worked. It isn't perfect but it is holding for now. And is not too tight to move around.

The electric trim servo had a sticking solenoid. To get me on my way they just installed a unit they had rebuilt and was on the shelf. All of this was warrantee work since I paid them to overhaul my unit last September.
