For the student pilots here.
When I was a student, I would not have flown with such weather around. Period.
After I was a pilot with many hours, weather much more benign that that, I parked the plane, bought airline tickets home. The plane was recovered later.
My major instructors would have given me Hell, if I had even suggested such a flight.
Walk away from any instructor who exhibits any such tendencies, and get a new one. There are plenty of instructors, do not settle for unsafe ones.
The student should have "Walked home" that night.
You gotta know when to hold them
You gotta know when to fold them
You gotta know when to walk away
True for both flying, and gambling. Leaving money on the table is not important, living tomorrow is.
Sad for this student, and all his friends and family.
