Hopefully, I haven't missed an existing thread; I did see one for a 28-181, but that seems to be a different setup.

I'm getting ready to replace the battery in my Warrior II (1978 PA 28-161), and the bench seat in the rear is a challenge. I can raise it far enough to get the battery cover open, but I'm not going to be able to pull that battery out.

Not much luck finding information on how to pull that seat out, or at least raise it high enough to let the battery clear the box. I can tell from forums that it's been painful for a lot of people.

Any tips or tricks before I resort to flashlight and wrenches?

Yes, it is a challenge. Lift the bottom up then forward. The top of the back cushion has a pivoting bracket. After all of the cursing is mostly done. You will look to buy a model with separate rear seats. As they are much much easier to remove.
Installing it back into place is a worse job imho.

Ah, okay, that makes sense in light of something I saw in a YouTube video about saddle brackets. Thanks!

FWIW, the cursing is still going on, but looking for a different model is definitely in play ;)

Just unbolt two bolts holding backrest and whole seat comes out. Takes 10 min. Just changed my battery.

My PA28-181 rear seat configuration must be drastically different from yours. Besides my individual rear seats that have quick release buttons, my battery is behind the luggage compartment bulkhead in the fuselage. It must be the difference in engine weight with components in front of the bulkhead that accounts for the need for a more anterior placement of the battery for W&B.
