PA 24 Down Near Athens GA

I'm sorry if I did something wrong. I assume since the moderator checked the post that he would have checked my link and found it was legitimate. I didn't comment on the link because there isn't much to say without knowing more. I just thought it was useful to know of another accident involving a GA plane.

In this case, I think we know, the max amount of time it sat.
The former owner- Christopher McLeod, was shot Feb 27, 2021 after flying to Hartsville, SC. assuming he flew this Comanche- and given that it was an estate sale…
FA shows 5/9 flight, fatal flight was the 11th.

I didn’t see when the annual was in the estate sale listing.
 
To do the link like I did, just type in the message the actual words you want to be the linking phrase. Select /highlight the words, then choose the Link command from the menu (chain link). Past the actual URL into the blank. It will tie the URL to the words in your message.
Thanks for the kind words, all. I'm new, not even a pilot and likely never will be, but I love General Aviation and stop in my tracks to look up every time I hear an airplane fly over, wishing I was up there.

I doubt I could get the medical, or it would take so long that as I'm now 67, I might be hitting a limit on what I can do. Plus a spouse who is terrified of the whole prospect of general aviation...

Don't let her hold you back. Sport pilot is probably an option.
 
The report of where the crash occured (1/4 mile short of the runway) and the adsb track don't match up. But 1/4 mile short.....soooooo close. RIP.

Yes I wondered that too. Maybe the ADSB lost track below a certain altitude?

At least do a discovery flight. It’s not that expensive and no need for any medical crapola. Even if you never go any further you’ll appreciate the experience. I wish I’d done it 20 years sooner. I thought it would be stupid expensive, and it can be, but just doing it once isn’t.

Sport Pilot doesn’t require a medical. You’d be limited to 2-seat simple planes and daytime VFR flying, but that’s really not much of a constraint. No age limitation; in fact there’s an organization called the UFOs (United Flying Octogenarians).

And it’s been my experience that buying life insurance makes spouses more willing to let you risk your neck.... :D

That's a possibility though my flying dream has always been basically a Piper Arrow or Dakota and traveling all over the country with friends and family. I don't know if just flying around in something smaller than a C152 would really be satisfying. Gotta ponder this, and maybe hope for the Light Personal Aircraft rules to make some other possibilities happen. Not likely, I know.

People fly all over the country in LSAs, as well as to the Bahamas. Light Sports are capable of more than $100 burger runs. Broaden your view a bit and don’t limit yourself.

But as @Salty suggests, you really should go do a discovery flight and decide whether you’ll enjoy flying.

I actually have been up in a single engine place 2 or 3 times in my life. Once in high school and it was a "discovery" flight back when Cessna did them for $20! I also went up once in a C172 piloted by a friend who just flew us around south Florida for an hour. Seems like there was one other time, so I'm pretty sure I'd love flying an airplane. I never really consider LSA before so that's really a whole new paradigm to consider. I just always imagined PPL/IR and something like an Arrow being my dream. Maybe LSA would scratch the itch.
 
If there was ever a thing where it's about the journey, not the destination, it's flying. I'd suggest taking a discovery flight. I spent a couple of years flying sport, and it was a lot of fun.

Getting a pilot cert is a worthwhile endeavor, in and of itself, IMO. Stimulating, interesting, fun.

I’ve never flown an arrow, but new LSAs that cruise at 120 kts aren’t much slower, at all, than the 180 and 200 hp arrows. And they’re more economical to operate.

The only new design I’ve flown is the evektor, it’s a neat plane imo. And old taildraggers can be a hoot.

Life is short. Get after it, Mr Stone.
 
Does anyone find it strange a bunch of pilots are telling a non-pilot to go “after his dreams of flying” in this kind of thread. I mean …. I agree … but still … irony anyone?
