Oshkosh 2022 Group Parking/Camping Headcount

GAC 195?
Is there a map of the row numbers somewhere?
 
This is a great idea and I hope you can make it work. I'm fairly close (as are several others obviously) if someone needs to go up early and stake our claim.

My guess is EAA wants a non-trivial donation to secure the area beyond the camper registration fees. Based on the Mooney Summit group having a significant cost. But, perhaps that covers a big tent rental with chairs or something.

I just sent the Director of Airshow Operations an email, and I’ll go to Jack Pelton if I have to. One way, or another, we’ll find out if it’s possible.
 
I'm the one that runs the computer system that is used in vintage to sort out reserved spaces. I don't make the decision, but I get the data from the people who do. A bunch of unrelated aircraft (not type based, or based on some historical event) aren't getting (decent) reserved spots. If you're willing to take space way downfield like the Metro warbirds, you might (though this is a stretch) get in. You're free to stake out a bunch of spots and pay for them, if your planes are 1970 or older down here.

Mine is an 81. No vintage for me
 
So if we can’t get a pre-reserved area/row. Would the first person to get there just need to get however many spots we needed to blocked off?

They won't allow that.
You get your spot when you show up and cannot reserve more than one campsite per person actually getting the reservation.

So basically in order for us to get spots in the same area we’d need to meet at another airport and be a “flight of __” and arrive together at OSH.

The workaround in Scholler is to pay for multiple spots, with multiple EAA numbers, all starting on the same day. I think it could work with N40. Someone local could fly up the week before the show and buy multiple, then rope them off. Would still have to work out how to get the parking pass with the row number to the inbound pilots.
 
It works in Vintage. Someone should talk to Jay Honeck. He used to have multiple spots up in the North 40 when he set up there.

Someone last year tried to buy the spot next to them for me and were told no because I wasn't present.

Good to read multiple purchases work at least some of the time. Do you know the chair or sub-chairs of the N40?
For Jay. AFAIK, he only bought one spot but used some persuasion along with a honking big tent to make it big enough to fit a twin.

I think the tricky bit was your spot was pre-paid so there was a requirement you pick it up in-person, or something like that.
 
Nope, alas I don't know much about the parking in the North 40. Once you get off the taxiway your in a department two stages removed from where I work.

I’ve always parked in the north 40. Last year I was 4 or 5 rows behind Kevin.

I hope to God I never get stuck in the south 40

Rumor I heard was that Metro only gets a spot because they were the ones that convinced Paul to start the convention. Of course, I heard this rumor from the Metro folks...
 
Well, Oshkosh was already in Oshkosh by the time they adopted the name. What they were told one year was that they had to be an organized group in order to secure parking. The "Metro" came from peeling the signs off the portable toilets (Metro was the toilet servicing company back then) and sticking it on their planes making them the "Metro Warbirds."

Actually, they don't really get an official reserved spot. They just send enough people up together to map out a spot and they make arrangements to go further down south than where we are currently parking so they can grab two whole rows and be further away from the people who would tend to complain about their antics.

There are some other party groups that arrive way early and buy up spots for their group (down to staking them out with type and N-numbers). In vintage, much like Scholler, if you buy your credentials and stake out a spot, you can occupy it later.
 
For those interested in pre-gaming Oshkosh. There is a Fly-In and Airshow event an hour south, the day before.
This airport is a great location for someone like me coming from a great distance. I can fly out from Whiteside Sunday morning and be fresh for the hornet's nest rather then doing that arrival after hours of flying.
Plus you beat the rush.

After departing this airport for Airventure last year, I will be at this airport the day before every year whether they have an event or not. It was crazy convenient for getting into Osh.

Disclaimer: This event has nothing to do with the events that were put on by polarizing individuals in prior years. It is the airport hosting the activities.
Its an airshow / Fly-in with discounted fuel, food, music, drinks, etc. I don't what the "YouTuber" reference is about. My association with this event is I attended airport meetings where we discussed how to attract pilots and I offered to share the event on my social channels and noted reduced fuel cost and food will get pilots attention. Influencer stuff never came up in the meetings I attended. I know that puts a lot of people off.
