Oshkosh 2022 Group Parking/Camping Headcount

At OSH I mean....
Oh yes. The camping filled up quick.
This event allowed me to not have to be arriving during the hornets nest in the afternoon.
I think to get a good camping spot you have to arrive a month early now :(

For those interested in pre-gaming Oshkosh. There is a Fly-In and Airshow event an hour south, the day before.
This airport is a great location for someone like me coming from a great distance. I can fly out from Whiteside Sunday morning and be fresh for the hornet's nest rather then doing that arrival after hours of flying.
Plus you beat the rush.

After departing this airport for Airventure last year, I will be at this airport the day before every year whether they have an event or not. It was crazy convenient for getting into Osh.

Disclaimer: This event has nothing to do with the events that were put on by polarizing individuals in prior years. It is the airport hosting the activities.
Its an airshow / Fly-in with discounted fuel, food, music, drinks, etc. I don't what the "YouTuber" reference is about. My association with this event is I attended airport meetings where we discussed how to attract pilots and I offered to share the event on my social channels and noted reduced fuel cost and food will get pilots attention. Influencer stuff never came up in the meetings I attended. I know that puts a lot of people off.

If we all did that, and departed at the same time, we should be able to park together. Should get a good N40 spot.

Probably not a "good" spot but in close proximity I bet. Camping is getting to be full before the event even starts now.

I came in on the 24th last year and had a good spot in the N40. I was 2 rows west of the showers

I think close proximity to bathrooms and showers is higher in my list than not walking a lot. I was in the nosebleeds last year but only 20 feet from the mobile shower unit.
Is the "real" restroom / shower house nice or dirty? The mobile ones seem nice.

Homebuilt probably has the best setup with those private bathrooms that are all decked out in granite, etc. Stayed there one year with a friend and was impressed with their setup.

Obviously camping together would be sweet, but I think organizing a meet up is probably more feasible.
.FWIW (which isn't much) I plan to fly out there on Saturday.

does Honek still have that famous osh gathering? that always sounded like the best poa gathering out there that I'm aware of. of course there's that beer tent where the beer girls get on the bar and feed people beer funnels. that's probably a close second to honek's gig.

It’s no Ritz-Carlton, but It’s decent. They just updated them to individual stalls with doors that lock, and they get cleaned 2-3 times a day

That’s WAY NICER than camp Schollar!!!

Y'all need to go shower in the trailers. They at least have a real shower head.
Wear shower shoes though.

PSA Lock the door.

I saw at least 2 grown dudes showering because they didn't lock the door.
Nobody wants to see a naked pilot.

Of all the places I've parked at OSH, I actually most preferred far the NW corner of the field, near the gate. It was an easy walk to the outside world, and I did all my breakfast and supper eating outside the fence, which saves a ton of money, and is better food. The bus comes by every few minutes, and it's empty when you get on, so you can sit where you want. And riding the bus, while it seems like a chore, actually saves time because you're definitely not tempted to walk at all, and it drops you closer to the gate than any regular person camping spot would be. I was super disappointed when they parked me out there, but ended up happy about it. Only drawback is that it's a long way back to camp if you forget to bring something when you head in to the show, or if you just need a siesta. Pretty peaceful sleeping out there, and right under the west end of 9/27, so when the warbirds wake you up in the morning, they coming right at ya. I love the smell avgas burnt by round engines in the morning.

Time before last, I parked right by the permanent rest rooms in the N40. I thought that would be great, but quickly found out that 1) the lights are on all the time, and 2) there are people walking by right by your tent ALL THE TIME, night and day. Not terrible, but it was much easier to sleep out away from the high traffic area. It was nice to have easy access to electrical outlets, hot showers, and real toilets. I do like the "real" restrooms. Showers are a little less private, as they are separated similarly to toilet stalls, rather than individual little rooms, but it ain't locker room style. Sorry to disappoint you, Bry.

I put my arm around you 1 time....

only 5 hours? I'm not sure how much liking and subscribing I can do in only 5 hours, but I'll do my best!

Maybe if someone included instructions for it in their videos, we could learn how to like and subscribe faster. Unfortunately, I find the whole process too difficult and confusing so I have never liked or subscribed to anything.

I co-sponsored the “life support” version of Jay’s H.O.P.S. party last year, but it might be time to officially pull the plug and start new? I’m willing to sponsor a party again if someone in the N40 can host. I’m usually camping in scholler and don’t expect this year to be different.

sponsor means I’ll bring in carby deli food, plates, napkins, etc, and some limited beer to kick start, but everyone should bring a six pack to share. The host should have the “hardware”, tables, coolers, shelter, kitchen knife to cut sandwiches, serving spoons, and so forth. Everyone brings their own chair. The party is the night of the night air show and starts at sunset or whenever people show up.

The reason Jay was always the good one to host is he has a whole Chalet thingie at his camp site which included tables and awnings and stuff. He keeps it all in a trailer near the airport. Most of us will have little more than our aircraft and tents.

Hopefully, someone who can commit to attending consistently will step up. Nobody can replace Jay, but emulating him wouldn't be a bad gig.

I should be able to bring a lot of stuff if I end up going solo this year. With me, and my tanks topped, I have about 520lbs to play with.

It'd be great to continue the Tuesday night do. I can't volunteer, while I will be there my mode of conveyance is not at this moment clear.

Tuesday is Camp Bain traditionally, Wednesday is HOPS (but mostly PoA). If we knew someone with a twin, they’d have a huge spot and a place for a party tent, let alone cargo capacity.

As usual, I'll be camping in the Vintage area. That's the area the EAA assigns me to photograph. Looking forward to meeting more of you there, especially if it's over a beer or two!

Maybe we can start a WhatsApp group or something to communicate through while there.

I think I am going to go the Vintage route this year. I kinda like the N40 mainly because that's where I see most of you guys but I also spend a good deal of OSH walking to and from the N40 to get to all the stuff.
Looks like Vintage is closer to everything and it appears they have the "good" showers / bathrooms. Eren is coming this year so that it a touch higher on the priority list.

If I take the aircraft I might do Vintage as well. If. Still up in the air. One thing is for certain. If I bring the aircraft Oshkosh it will almost certainly be for the last time.

Are there any year of manufacture requirements to be able to park in vintage?

Does Vintage fill up like the N40 does?

I found out I have to be in Denver the Friday before the start of the event

Vintage camping and parking can usually accommodate everyone that qualifies. Last year they did have to put some VAP across the burn line, so you couldn’t be at your plane during the airshow.

I got to camp one year in Vintage near the barn and silo. It is nice and close to everything. Also right near a tent where musicians gathered and had impromptu musical sessions, which was kinda cool. Walked down to the restaurant (Tall Pines?) by the ultralight field that had good breakfasts.

I just got here and N40 is already a third full. I really need to buy an older plane just so I can park in vintage.

wait, it’s a month before the show. People are already flying in?
