Oshkosh 2020

I'm still experiencing Oshkosh 2019. The Saturday night airshow hasn't begun and you're already Oshkosh 2020!

That said I plan to stay most the week next year..and hope to bring friends!

Stayed in Appleton for the first time this year. Prefer that over Fond du Lac. Plan to do the same next year.
 
My airplane partner and I may go next year and camp out. The rules for camping state only one tent is allowed per spot, unless a second tent is needed for immediate family members. I really don't want to share a tent, so would they give us any grief for putting up two one-man tents?

Camping with the airplane is the only way to do it! :thumbsup:

I've never seen them make an issue of this, as long as everything is within the footprint of the plane, and not encroaching on the aisles with the potential to interfere with airplane movements.

I've had as many as three tents to accommodate everyone in the Aztec; my large tent with vestibule pitched behind the left wing, and two smaller tents on either side of the right wing.
 
Camping is the only way to go. I’ve stayed off field before and it’s just not the same.

As long as your tents stay inside the squareish footprint of the plane we have never had a problem. We typically have a large dome and a screen porch. The porch is awesome for watching the air show in the shade and no bugs.
 
We plan on being there since this year fell apart at the last second!
 
We liked Fond Du lac because it was small, and we would eat a the little lakefront grill there. But after 3 years we were ready for a change. Appleton gives you a lot more food choices when you're done at the end of the day.
 
This was my 3rd Oshkosh. Once driving, once camping at FLD and finally flying in and camping at OSH. All were fun, but camping on field can’t be beat.

I'll be back next year now that I (re)learned all of the Oshkosh secrets.

I'm making a list of stuff to fix and stuff to bring .

Gotta soup up or replace Joan's scooter.

Last night after the night airshow my scooter sport was pacing and passing guys on full size motorcycles (in traffic) and a guy walking by noticed.

Put the 2nd tent up just before dark, take it down in the morning. That is if you don’t want to hear anyone fuss over it.

Never had a problem with it. Jay takes an end spot and sets up a damn Army camp. LOL. But a couple of small tents within the normal confines of a typical airplane spot isn’t going to bother anybody or get any comments from volunteers. And no, you don’t have to wait until after dark to set the second one up.

I've been twice and camped in the north 40. Both times we had two tents and not one complaint. I was the guy with a tent under the wing of a warrior. I got lots of compliments about that. Haha

If you can get under there, you have shade and a shelter from the massive rains at times. It’s not that bad an idea.

Even under the wing of a Cessna if you don’t deploy some sort of tarp, the rain will just come in sideways... LOL
 
I have yet to go there, so I'll say I wanna go and hopefully make it next year.
 
Next year wife is coming, so will stay offsite in A/C and bugless showers. This year we arrived on Thursday before the show. I found that the tent leaked during each derecho and it was moist inside until Sunday. I was pretty excited when I finally got my shoes dry on Sunday. The second derecho shattered one of the tent poles, but some packing tape fixed that up. The tent was old so I just trashed it when we left Saturday. I enjoyed the forums and especially the Jambalaya and Amelia's Landing gatherings.

I was there in 2015 when a massive storm arrived the weekend before the show. The tent was whipping around like never before, it was insane. I looked outside to see what was going on and I saw tied down planes moving around. Once over the dumpster was filled canopy frames and ripped tents. It was crazy! You know the insurance companies cringe every year during OSH.

But I was dry as could be inside! it was a tight fit getting in and out but it was just me in my cocoon.

Oh no yours get torn up this year? I'm not certain what make and model. I borrowed it from a buddy. But it fit under the warrior wing perfect. It was close to this which is a snugpack ionosphere. I mean they look the exact same that I had. Obviously a one person tent. I had a blow up mattress in it and crammed some snack in and the next days clothes. The rest clothes all stayed in the plane. I had a pretty cheap 3 person tent from Academy sports that held up fantastic and stayed dry through the storms of Saturday. Best advice is to avoid the tall tents. If you can stand up in it, the odds of it collapsing increase big time.

We had 2 tents this year. No flack
 
I’ll be there again. Likely bringing the wife next year, so that means lodging with ac and quote a flushing toilet.
 
I'm going. Haven't missed one since 1992. We'll be temporarily domiciled in fabric structures.
 
After renting an RV this year, I’m never tent camping at OSH again. A bicycle makes anyplace in Scholler tolerable. A motor scooter would make anyplace in Scholler great!
