WHAT: The (almost) annual PoA/Babes/BaconFest Jambalaya and Chili party. Yes, we missed last year, but so did (most of) you!

WHEN: Tuesday evening of OSH, as in years past. Currently plan to start appetizers around 7:15 and the Jambalaya & chili around 7:30.

COVID Preparation: We’ll have plenty of hand sanitizer and some of the condiments will be individually wrapped this time. Masks are encouraged, but the nature of eating means they won’t be on most of the time. If you aren’t feeling well, please phone it in!

PROVIDED: We provide jambalaya (andouille sausage, shrimp, chicken, rice, vegetables, and spice) and chili. (We have the vegetarians well covered, just ask Steingar).

BRING: If you can't bring something, come anyway! If you want to bring something, here are some ideas: Libations (beer, iced tea, lemonade, water and soda goes with both dishes, wine not as much, though some enjoy it; margarita, sparkling wine goes with everything) French bread, cheese, crackers, bacon, sausage, BACON JERKY, chips, salsa, hummus, guacamole, desert, fruit, veggies or whatever you wish to provide. Again, we understand how hard it is to schlep stuff around the grounds. If you want to drop something off in the morning, that works too.

Bringing chairs is a good idea, but there will be some around, too. Again, you can drop them off during the day and take them with you afterward.

WHERE: Camp Bacon in Camp Scholler. In 2021 we’re at 19th between Hickory & Ironwood, just east of camper registration. We’re on Google Maps and at
https://w3w.co/skinning.electronics.tech

TRANSPORTATION: The campground shuttle has stops a half block from us until 11:30. https://www.eaa.org/airventure/plan-your-eaa-airventure-trip/transportation/shuttles/shuttle-buses. If driving, the Grey lot is very close.

COST: Free! (Donations are accepted, but they are totally voluntary!)

PLEASE RESPOND ON THIS THREAD IF YOU'RE PLANNING TO COME AND IF YOU'LL BE BRINGING ANYTHING SO PEOPLE CAN GAUGE QUANTITIES!

As of 7/20/21, we’re expecting about 60 people.

Planning to be there - two of us. If we can find it. Searched and searched in '19 and never found it. Grant, if you're open to it, send me a PM with a cell number where I could reach out if we can't find it again this year. Hopefully the signs will help.

Grant, wish I could. We are aiming for the second weekend. Still like to see you and swap some stories so will reach out later in the week.

Will stop by, staying in Scholler this year, first time in a decade! Will bring some kind of local Indiana craft beer.

I'm not sure the Blue Lot will work anymore unless you're an exhibitor or handicapped.

For the folks running Camp Bacon... sometimes it can be hard to figure out where you are (I had to search quite a bit in '19... waitaminnut, this may be by design! :D ), I highly recommend the use of https://what3words.com/ - it maps basically the entire globe and marks ever 3 square meter in the world with a unique three word address (for instance, a spot close to where Camp Bacon was in 2019 is salmon.televise.indecision

SUPER handy tool for finding people at Oshkosh, and especially useful for sharing your camp location with people. Have to give @JeremyW props for this tip.

Camp Bacon IS marked on Google Maps. Is the location still accurate?

I think it probably depends on when a Camp Bacon rep can get to Scholler to reserve space and what is available.

I see margaritas have been covered... perhaps I need to bring my Knockout Bourbon Punch or Planter's Punch or something along those lines.

I will be there, solo. Don't know anyone but will bring tequila. That usually helps.

If everyone is welcome, we will try to stop by. New to this forum. Anything called Camp Bacon sounds like a place we belong. Will likely bring guacamole. We make good guacamole. This will be our first time attending AirVenture. Will be nice to meet other people.

Just be prepared. Folks are just as "colorful" in person as they are online. :D It's a great time!

Having a cookout at the chapter pavilion that evening but will stroll down after that. Will bring Iowa craft beers.

I’ve updated the first post with the information that I have at this point.

Just unpacked boxes with individual packs of plasticware, salt & pepper, and hot sauces (Tabasco, Cholula, Sriracha). We’re taking COVID seriously.

So looking forward to seeing everybody!

Wow, if that’s where camp bacon ended up, I’m going to be next to the road when we arrive Saturday morning.

I doubt scholler is that full. Audreys woods and Paul’s woods are niiiiice with lots of trees and streams. Paul’s is closer to the main show though.

Don't forget that we are looking for contiguous space for about 15(?) campsites.

We (3 of us) leave MYF Tuesday morning, will attend if we make it there in time! Thanks for the post

The person who clued me in to the usefulness of What 3 Words is none other than the Mayor of Camp Bacon himself, Larry Overstreet. I'm guessing he found it useful to keep track of his six (!) kids during Oshkosh! :D

It's a great tool. I'm surprised it's not more popular.

Probably on the other side of the highway! I'm gonna have to bring a bike this year. OSH is gonna be an absolute madhouse.

Thank you for great fellowship, food, and memories.

And Happy Birthday again Aidan!

Some images from early in the evening. I counted 71 people, and thanks to Leslie increasing the size, we were actually able to offer leftovers to go. Aiden celebrated his 16th birthday and Max Flight had a wonderful tribute to Launchpad Marzari and we shared in some of his chocolate. Thanks to everyone for coming! And special thanks to those who helped out in both prep and cleanup. We truly cannot host an event of this size without your assistance!
