just starting a thread on pure speculation on whats coming... any ideas?

heard somewhere the new version of G5 is coming that combines both AI and DG, though I think its a step back in terms of redundancy.

what else can we speculate on? a new-er 650/750?

You mean other than it already is?

Preferably without the red X ... lol
hahahaha But it will cost 3 times as much and still have problems and wont talk with any other box unless it has 2 or 3 of them gad, gdl, or any flavor box gamrin requires. hahaha You know I'm anti garmin but honestly all manufacturers have their problems no doubt.

...

  1. At least one tent-flattening storm.
  2. Jay's HOPS party.
  3. A parking lot full of Vans RVs stretching to the horizon.
  4. A Generation 216 SR-22...with even more exterior LED lights.
  5. Slow, and expensive "fast food".
  6. Fast, and expensive plastic kitplanes.

I'm hoping for a G5 that can provide attitude information to attitude based autopilots like the KFC-200.

And the Century 2000. I’m due for an avionics install in July and want to dump my vacuum system for the G5’s but forced to keep the Vacuum AI for my Century 2000 AP. Hopefully Garmin will have a fix for this soon.

Same thing here with my Kap-150. If I can get it working again, that is.

there is, its called GFC 500 ...lol

Haha indeed. Only if you have a single engine. I have a Cessna 310 which the GFC 500 isn’t certified for. Otherwise I’d be all over it for $5k.

The GFC 600 isn’t certified for the 310 either. Only the STEC 3100 is. $20k for a new AP? Guess I’ll be keeping my vacuum system a bit longer.

ahh, ok yah its not for you right now then. if it makes you feel any better, GFC 500 installed is about 15K (3 servos)

Yupp that’s the quote I got and from what I can tell that’s the lowest I have seen around this hoard as well

Foreflight will offer 2019 pricing for those willing to pay 2020 in advance to escape paying a the $20 price increase next year.

I've seen

I've seen on beechtalk a guy paid $17k for a two servo system and the G5s had already been installed prior to the $17k bill for the GFC500

Ha, I feel better now. My quote is for 3 servos and I already have dual G5

So much for low cost solution. Is the install of the gfc500 that involved? Seems awfully high. And I'm not counting the fact it requires a g5..Im talking AP only.

I will know first hand upcoming winter, at least that’s the plan

The installation of any autopilot is quite involved. The only way to have a "cheap" autopilot is to give up capability. The Garmin autopilots don't lack capability. ;)

The servos required custom mounting brackets, each plane model is different, hence the reason for individual testing.
No they won’t let you use existing brackets if you have an old AP. And no you cannot just customize your own. I’ve seen as much as 40 hours per servo. Removing existing AP also takes hours, including drilling out rivets of old brackets, undoing numerous GPS/nav connections, etc etc

And since each plane has different challenges, take quotes online with a grain of salt.

That’s what essentially my avionics guy said. The good thing is he doesn’t quote me on hours and usually takes way more than hours he thinks . This also includes taking out the vacuum pump. Actually his quote is 19.2k for gfc500 + 345. From what I read from various people on this board, that’s not that bad after all. Not to mention one of my century 2000 servos sits in the most inconvenient place ... in the far corner of the tail cone. I can’t even get in there even if I wanted to.
