One for Nick

is it my imagination, or does that plane really only have one comm and one nav in the radio stack?

Seems cool tho. Clicking on the link for the N-Number shows 125mph cruise speed. That's only like 110 knots or so (I think). Is the E model slower than the C?

The C has a carb, and is 180hp, while the E is FI, and has 200hp. The E is anywhere from 2.5kts to 10kts faster depending on altitude and configuration.

For anyone interested in older Mooney aircraft, a nice site is www.mooneypilots.com, click on flight test reports, and read up on the bird of interest.

If I go travel airplane, my list has narrowed to three aircraft, Mooney F, Tiger, and Bellanca Viking.

M20Cs cruise around 130-135 kts. M20Es cruise closer to 145 kts. Theoretically (and in reality) an M20E should be faster than an M20F as they share the same engine (HP) but the M20E is shorter (less drag) than the M20F. The M20F is the precursor to the M20J (201) which shares the same engine (HP) but has much refined aerodynamics (reduced drag). The 60's era aircraft were clean for their time but by 80's vintage standards were veritable drag queens. There are numerous mod kits for the 60's era Mooney aircraft which will allow one to approach the M20J era drag reduction. Those kits applied to an M20E would produce a screaming demon in terms of cruise speed.
