I just attempted to login to the website formerly known as twitter to get a list of the few people I follow (everyone has moved somewhere else) and discovered that....I'm no longer automatically logged in, now I have to explicitly log in. Nope, not gonna.

Verrrrryyy interrrresting.

Don’t know if it’s a difference between website and app but on the app I can’t remember the last time I logged on.

Thanks for reminding me - I never use it anywhere but the tablet using a web browser. Hence I've never logged in on the computer. Don't plan to, either.

Yeah, you used to at least see someone's page without logging in anymore (so that you could get that list of followers that you wanted). I just tried to see my profile in a browser in which I wasn't logged in and it blocked me with a login screen. Too bad.

Xitter is pretty much a dumpster fire now, sadly.

I'm more than happy to have this conversation, but please no one try to p!$$ on my leg and call it precip by claiming this thread is not pøl!t!cal.

I use X and I never need to log in, either on the app or the website. I find it is the most useful site for local issues.

If you are on PPRUNE, and the Ukraine war, the videos nearly all come from X, and yes, many do seem similar to dumpster fires.

Tank turrets flying into the air have been rare in the last year, the Russian have run out of tanks?

Not a Twitter or X user directly, but there are an amazing number of active users worldwide. their videos are often the very latest, and most accurate news. Conformation of drone strikes in Russia are often X videos from Russian cell phones. What could be more accurate and up to date?

Twitter/X is the best for raw up to date info that hasn’t been “moderated” aka censored.

I don’t even have an account, but I have never had a issue viewing a video or single post someone linked too, or home page

Maybe try a different browser or clear your cookies?

I can get to the Cessna page while not logged in. But cannot get to my own page. It likely has to do with individual account privacy settings, which will not help the OP retrieve his follower list, unfortunately.

And by "raw up to date info that hasn't been censored" you mean "people can post whatever they want and it will be received as news by those who are unaware of the concept of confirmation bias". It still works if you follow trusted accounts, and I do still use it for that purpose for local news from reporters who I know are trustworthy. But I maintain that the results from the algorithmic feed, the trending topics, and the keyword search exist somewhere on the spectrum between dumpster fire and used car salesman convention. In my last couple of attempts to get real-time updates from two separate regional military conflicts, the trending topic on that subject was an endless scroll filled with pictures from innumerable different accounts that were images from completely different wars. Verified by yours truly using reverse image search on google. And very recently in the aftermath of the tragedy at DCA an innocent person's name was near the top of the trending topics as a responsible party, and was shared on this very board. Obviously politically-motivated.

Formerly, the top comments comprised a mixture of people you followed and verified accounts. Since the verified status has been deprecated the top comments comprise primarily those accounts who pay a monthly fee instead, mixed with those who know how to best spam the hashtags to piggyback on the top trending topics so that they can hype whatever cryptocurrency they have a stake in. I find it hard to believe that the practice of promoting posts from those who pay a monthly fee above those from formerly vetted accounts is of informational value to anyone who is not directly making money from that practice. Aside from those accounts who I trust, the current landscape of Xitter seems, to me, to be a wasteland of bots, crypto, and an endless firehose of misinformation. For anyone who believes that this model is the optimal way for the general public to receive breaking news, well... I have some meme coin to sell you.
