Sitting in the RCC at SEA (6 AM, been here 1/2 hour already) waiting for SEA-IAD-FRA-MXP. Are we having fun yet? Scott, why do we do this?

And now sitting in the LH Senator lounge at FRA. For 8 hours! Heck of a way to spend a day.

Hi Gherry,

Jeez, your post was at 2:36am... most folks would be asleep. What is an RCC? And, who are you flying around?
Hope you get some rest soon.

RCC = Red Carpet Club. That probably answers your second question too: spam can or aluminum mailing tube.

2:36 AM = 8:36 AM in FRA. BTDT many times myself to various cities.

These day's it's most frequently LAX, but I'm already well over 80,000 qualifying miles for the year. Without counting "rollover" miles.

I'm finally in my hotel in Milan. What a trip. 10 hour layover in FRA. Should "only" have been 9 hours, but we got in from IAD an hour early. Great tail winds. Fortunately the trip home isn't as silly. And I'll pass 50,000 EQM on UA when I get home. 1P for another year is assured.

I'll be in the office Monday and Tuesday of next week, then a red eye to PHL. Then to FLL, home late on the 31st. Then on the 10th we have a 6 AM flight out of SEA, but that's to LIH through SFO. I like that one. 12 days in Hawaii sounds really good. :D

Then back to the EU (Netherlands) in September. I guess I should rent "Up In The Air". I think I recognize that guy. :D :D

Yeesh. It's still better than the 12 hours I spent in the lounge at ZRH when I went to Cairo. At that time, the lounge had no windows (making it even worse). CVG-ZRH (lounge) ZRH-CAI. Then having to deal with the madhouse that is Egypt immigration and customs.

Try sitting in the terminal in Hanoi for 6+ hours before you can check in so you can get to the lounges. The terminal is NOT air conditioned and the lounges only marginally so. And this was late June. HOT and HUMID.

I used to envy my friends who traveled so much. Over that, now.

Not much different than the airport in Cairo in October/November. Much like Hanoi, no AC except the lounge. Worse, the farmers were burning their fields so the whole place smelled like, well, I can't even describe it.

Ah, the joys of travel. At least you're in Milano.... Say "hi" to Beth....

Isn't this a glamorous life we lead?

Beth seems to be a bit further north in the country. I hope it's cooler up there. Low 90s each day this week in Milan. Joy, oh joy.

I have to take my kids to camp. Then I'll come home. Probably pay bills. Clean up a bit. Won't even leave the county.

Nolonger on lake como. I am on cog rail train this second climbing alps to wengen. Flickr for inages... (Der Schweiz)

Nice area. Going up to the Schilthorn? Lauterbrunnen is a nice town, too.

THe Glacier Express is worth the ride, too. Were it winter, a "must see" is the train ride into St. Moritz. Story-book winter wonderland.

When I finish scanning the pictures of my dad's, I'll have to start on the thousands of my own....

Jungfraujoch this time. Did glacier exp in 2004. We are also doing the golden pass ride into montreux saturday.

We are in wengen. Changed trains in lauterbrunnen. a lot higher up...

That is also a fabulous ride. If you have time at Montreux, take the cog train up to Rocher de Naye. There's a hang-glider launch point at Rocher de Naye.... at 6600 feet, it's quite the ride down.... (google it for video)

Schilthorn??? Learn your geography, boy!!!!!! :goofy::goofy:

You catch the Schilthornbahn on the other side of the valley, in Muerren.

Perhaps my favorite hotel stay of all time was Hotel Baeren in Wengen. Wonderful owners. Husband is a top-trained chef. Food was fantastic. They sold us some wine out of their cellar. Prefer Muerren for a stay, quieter and less glitzy than Wengen.

BTW - I did leave the county today, briefly, but quickly back home.:cornut:

Which one? Tower lounge? (probably not if you're connecting inside the EU).....

At least that lounge is incredibly nice compared to the RCC. Not that this is a difficult feat to accomplish ;)

I wouldn't call Wengen glitzy. Schilthorn is from Muerren yes. Sitting on train at Kleine Scheidegg waiting for it to move. Jungfraujoch or bust.

Hey, I was there in 1983. It has been a while! :D

Out past gate A24. And, yes, it does beat the RCC at FRA.

Went skiing up there in 1983. Top of the hill above Kleine Scheidegg to Grindlewald is about 5000 vertical feet. Rubber legs at the bottom of the hill. :D

Not glitzy compared to, say, St Moritz, but glitzy compared to Muerren, Grindlewald, Gimmelwald, Lauterbrunnen....more in ski season than in the summer. Pretty sleepy in the summer.

Can you tell I love the Berner Oberland?!

You, too, huh... Same here. Actually, I love most of CH.

Agreed. Off and on I've encouraged wife to look into a pharma position in CH!!!! She's too senior now to make it happen. Shame.

I used to look on and off at positions with the ITU in Geneva. For various reasons it wouldn't happen, and like your wife, it would be a step back now.

+1 That is a beautiful part of the world.

+1 on that, too.

I wonder if the IEC is hiring? That's why I'm in Milan right now, CISPR SC I WG4 meeting. But, my wife wouldn't like the move, either. Even though she's been to CH and enjoys it, too.
