Ohio Mid-air

Ugh. It's why I have Mode S, even though it doesn't work everywhere.

I took the plane up today, and made a really large 360 when I couldn't see the plane that had announced on downwind. Turns out he was on downwind for the opposite runway! He landed, and even though he knew I was behind him, he taxiied the entire length of the 4500' runway in his 172 (grrrr...) instead of taking the turnoff. He was turning off as my wheels were touching. I made the second turnoff, and had taxiied back for another go by the time he got to his hangar.

One of the fatalities was the owner and webmaster of flightinfo.com.
Sad thing for sure.
My prayers go out for all involved.

That is, without a doubt, my most visited forum. There are several pages of people sharing their condolences. As much garbage/flaming as their is over there, the group has really pulled together becuase of this event.

A mid-air is certainly my greatest fear...the only one that really makes me question what's most important to me. Unfortunately, the big sky theory doesn't always pull through. I guess it's just one of the risks you have to accept...unfortunately it's the one that can't really be controlled.
