Yeah, it will be closed from May 26th thru The 29th for repaving. The beginning of the summer season seems like a strange time, :dunno: but it is what they are doing. Over 8000 feet of runway in 3 to 4 days... We'll see...:hairraise: No flyin beach time during that time:nono::nono:

And that's BOTH runways (14/32 and 2/20), i.e., nowhere else to land but at Salisbury (KSBY) 18 nm to the west.

Kinda crazy to think about the timing but KGED is closer to the area I normally visit.

Those things happen the moment the AIP money gets released. Not necessarily up to the airport to decide when to do the work.

I'm pretty sure the state of Maryland pays for their paving, as they do for other GA aviation airports. Probably had to wait for the check. There is also a temperature range for paving. Can't be too cold.

Can't understand why they wouldn't pave one runway at a time. That's how government works.

Generally speaking, the state of Maryland pays only 5% of the cost, and gets 90% of the cost from the Feds, with the other 5% coming locally. Ash Solanki at the Maryland Airport Administration can fill you in on the details.

Doing both at once saves mobilization costs since you only have to do it once vs twice. Runway intersections are also often problematic, since you don't always have enough left on one side of the runway to make it worth keeping open.

What would you prefer? A deteriorating runway filled with FOD? An airport carrying more debt than necessary?

Runway 2-20 was repaved last year sometime. I believe they are sealing the runway and restriping 14-32.

I'm based at OXB. If you need a ride from SBY or GED shoot me a pm.

Paving the intersection is going to require both being closed for a time anyway

Not true....currently KTCY is having one runway repaved. The other they left open but cut its distance down by a significant margin...

True, but most airports are going to have such a shortened length that they'll just close it for a few days.

I like how they do it in Mexico, we landed down there the other day, just displace the threshold 1000m temporarily and let the airplanes land over the workers.

Probably true as most small towns don't have the money to pay for Even five percent. I shall amend that to taxpayers as they are primarily responsible, one way or another for keeping most airports open. Always have been.
