I can finally cut off the wristband. We are home.

2,874 nautical miles. 12 airports. 22.3 hours of flying over 28 days.

Our longest journey yet!

After decades of working 7-day, 60+ hour weeks, this felt AMAZING. What's your longest flying vacation?

Jay, you make me yearn for early retirement!

Looks like an amazing trip!
Well, I'm going to be 63 soon, so I didn't retire super early. But it happened way sooner than expected!

When some crazy Intel IT guy wants to buy an aviation themed hotel, who am I to stand in his way?

You also have my wristband beat. Mine was solid white within 2 days. Wish we could have made the HOPS. Had fun meeting y’all a few years back.

Also looking forward to early retirement!

You sold it? Well, good luck with the next phase of life. Mark will be retiring soon too. I’m still going to work my business for a while, I guess until cognitive dysfunction overtakes me.

Anyway, welcome back to TEXAS. :)

Still ten to fifteen years till retirement for me.
But longest trip was in May.. 31 days. Worked halftime, and enjoyed it.
Not sure of the miles, however 35 hours in an SR22 so we covered some distance.

Wait wait wait wait... how in the heck did your wristband last that long? I think mine was pure white by Thursday.

mine was mostly white too. I stopped at the ticket booth and they replaced it. They said the early bands had a problem, especially with sunscreen and soap. Might have been where you got the band from.

I don’t even want to think about “we coulda had x more for retirement if it weren’t for the airplanes”. But you gotta live. And if you wait til retirement to fly by that time your health might not let you.

We could have had more if we never flew airplanes, took vacations, bought new cars, bought a bigger hours, etc, etc, etc. But as you say, we do these things because we want to live.

Our wristband also turned white within 48 hours. The guys at North 40 registration (we were camped literally right behind the building -- it pays to arrive early!) replaced it with a later, better version.

Whoever printed the first batch really hosed EAA. I hope they got the next batch for free.

I don't think I'll ever retire. Spent too much on airplanes.
I thought the same. But when a guy shows up with cash, it's hard to say no.

I have already started another business, "Alamo Classic Restoration". We will be buying/restoring/selling old cars and houses.

Both also hobbies of my husband. I’m curious what he’s going to be doing after he retires next year. I will support whatever it is, as long as it gets him out of the house.

Jay, what kinds of cars do you like to work on?

How did your wristband hold up like that? Mine was nearly completely white by the end of the seven days.

I got a replacement from the North 40 registration guys on Tuesday. By then they had a shipment of good wristbands in house.

Right now I've got a '32, 42, '52, '62, two '72s, and an '06 in the shop. Just put a new leather interior in the '72 Corvette.

Next up: Tearing apart the engine on the '32 Confederate.

Glad you made it back to IOW!

Yeah, it was only for gas and lunch, but it was nice. Drove past the old homestead, and marveled at the amount of government money that has been wasted on campus.

It's a nice place to visit, but I sure would not want to live there again.
