"not valid for any class after." (no date)

So I have been through jumping though all the long hoops, I completed the hims evaluation, no issues there sent it into the faa, and suddenly when I look up my certs on the faa website updated, it now says 2nd class and then it says "NOT VALID FOR ANY CLASS AFTER" Besides googling that for me. I am already on the task, or telling me to call that Dr everyone talks about, could someone please tell me what that means, do I have the medical, with a special issuance?

Until you have paper in your hands, you don't have anything. Wait for the actual paperwork to arrive, then read it, and then see if your questions are answered. If not, come back with your questions based on what it says on the actual paper you received.

I thought that was what this form is for, questions, I was just more so curious of what that statement ment under my second class medical as of 2/15 and it has that statement underneath. I understand . Can not do anything until I have the actual docs, but as of a few days ago that status has changed from no medical to that....

I'm guessing that means it doesn't downgrade to a third class, but like Ron said, that's just a guess and you won't know the answer until you read the paperwork they send you with your certificate.

On your medical card, that phrase will probably be followed by a date that is the end of the month one year after your physical. Yes, it is a special issuance. You will probably be required to submit some documentation to your AME and get his approval for your second year to be issued (by him). The cover letter will explain.

As others indicate you will receive a letter with the medical. It will indicate you have a special issuance and what you need to do to renew it (which would depend on what exactly the SI is for). As Brad says it means you can't use it for class 3 purposes after the date indicated. Note that they put this on SI medicals even when they wouldn't have been valid past that date anyhow.

I'm surprised the update was posted in the database before you received you letter. You have two things to look forward to. A medical certificate and a special issuance. The duration of the two hasn't been the same for me. I used to have a simple SI that lasted for 7 years and the AME could re-issue my certs every 2 years in the meantime. My newer SI is good for 2 years but my medical cert is only good for 1 year. If I'm a good boy and turn in my 6-month worksheets and 12-month condition statement from my physician they, after review, will issue a new medical cert. I only have to see an AME every other year. Fun stuff, huh? Really, it isn't that bad once you get used to the rhythm of the FAA.

You can ask any question you want here, but until you know what it says on the actual medical certificate or special issuance letter, you are not going to have an answer. The only alternative is to call the FAA Aeromedical office in Oklahoma City and ask them. They'll be open tomorrow morning Central time.

Yeah, I was checking non-stop before then I got the letter stating I the wanted a HIMMS dr, and the eval only, and they got that last thurs, so since its been a week, I checked the system to see if it showed a medical yet, and bam! there it was second class, with the not valid for any class after, so i figure in the next day or so there should be a paper form with more answeres, plus, I can call my AME tomorrow and Okc, I just was supprised to see a change in a week, considering the weather there, and well, the fact it took 6 weeks last time for a response. I was just wanting some insite to whether that ment something bad, or if that was in fact I hopefully (fingers crossed ) will finally be expection the letter I have been waiting for for almost a year now.... I have been out of work for 4 months now, and they put me on the schedual every week, and of course I have yet to beable to say any progress has been made, I am hoping this right now is progress that will let me back in, I know I cant fly anything until then, but if it is coming I will be able to show back for work immedatly. Since this was a DUI will I ever beable to clear the SI, or is that something I will always have to do?

This is actually good news. It means your medical is on the way.

You may have to do some jumping thru various hoops for a few years because of the nature of your SI but if you do what is required it may eventually go away.

Suggestion: Do not drink alcohol. At all, period.

Calling your AME is not useful -- s/he would not know anything more than you do already without calling OKC, and you can do that yourself. And given the long hold times and number of times you have to call just to get through at all, I doubt your AME will be willing to do that anyway.

Since this was a DUI will I ever beable to clear the SI, or is that something I will always have to do?

That will be explained in the SI letter. You can probably also get some guidance on that point from AME Dr. Bruce Chien, who specializes in difficult medical certifications. You can reach him via either his web site or the AOPA Forums.

Calling OKC will get you similar information to what you've obtained online. They'll tell you they've made a positive decision and your letter/certificate is "in typing" or "in the mail."

if the status has been approved you can get OKC to email or fax the new certificate rather than wait for snail mail. I've always had excellent service from the telephone agents at OKC Aeromedical. Very helpful.

Considering how many conditions require a special issuance, any company turning down pilots with an SI would be missing out on a lot of healthy applicants. Heck, certain psoriasis medications require an SI.

Two possibilities come to mind…hiring folks don’t know exactly what an SI is, or it wasn’t the medical issues that got them not hired.

Congratulations. The "not valid for any class after...." statment is there to enforce your perodic need to provide further evdence of continung....sobirety...recovery...lack of anxiety....lack of depression....or whatever it is.

If you were sponosred by a HIMS AME in this application, that means the list of requirements he now becomes responsible for watching you generally MONTH by MONTH, or quarter by qquarter...or whatver the letter says.
