Ack...city life
My good friend Julius will be returning his 2010 BMW 350i to the factory. His replacement will be a 2011 750li. His is such a unique car--the only 350 in the world will all 8 options (3 not available to the general public)--that it won't be sold, the factory decided it will stay with them.

The 350i cost him $964 and the 750 will be free, including tax and reg paid by the factory. This because he is the leasor of the property occupied by the BMW dealership he once owned. Upon retirement 25 yrs ago, he negotiated a 99 yr lease for a new car each year. They probably didn't think he'd live this long.

To keep this aviation related, he worked as an A&E in WWII working on the P-38 engines. He also owned a PT13 with a PT-26 cockpit. (I cannot imagine that configuration.)

I love a success story.

A BMW 2002 was my first car. Before they were really known here and when everyone that owned a BMW still blinked their lights at each other.

Ricardo:

You gotta tell us - what are the 8 options his 2010 had?

Back in August, Julius showed me the brochure for his new BMW. Just think of all the bells and whistles you could possibly imagine. That would get you to about the 3rd Option. IOW, without seeing the brochure, I don't remember everything in the various options. I do remember being slack jawed wow'd.

His car had 16 video cameras (hidden behind mirrors or panels) to assist with lane changes and parking. 3 more IR sensors helpful in low light conditions. They could sense presence and closing speed of other vehicles and if relative speed was too great, the car would indicate unsafe conditions and--thru computer chip--make corrections like, blocking lane change until after threat is gone.

He had 3 in 1 transmission with 8 fwd gears. He could shift from auto to manual or computer over ride (think cruise control 1000+).

His 350 had a 750 front end, with proprietory (secret double secret suspension package) road handling system. There was a feature (I don't recall exactly right now) that above 45 mph the car would slouch to the ground for aerodynamics. And below 25 mph the car would basically drive itself.

Then the usual heated 7 position recumbent leather seats, etc....

I could go on....

Heck, with all that I think Auto-Pilot, not Cruise Control!

Did it also come with the very rare optional TURN SIGNALS? I so rarely see a BMW using turn signals I am sure it must be the most rare of optional equipment. Dave

Holy smokes! That's a far cry from my 2002.

Never had a BMW car, but in 1974 I bought a BMW R-90/6 motorcycle.
Most reliable ANYTHNG that I've ever owned!

Kinda weird that he gets a loaded all-the-whistles model out of that deal. I wonder how it was written. If I'm running BMW he gets a strippo 328. When they were making the 1 series, that's what he would have gotten.

I have to assume he anticipated such and negotiated accordingly.

But I still can't figure out all the fancy can't-get-them-here options. Why would they do that?????? Unless the lease is revocable at his option or something.

This is a funny thread! Ordered my BMW 399i yesterday! :p I'm getting option 39, which comes with a backup engine!!! :goofy:
