Not that it is relevant but Vegas Shooter was a Pilot according to CNN.

Sadly I wasn't really joking. He had made some stupid statements about doing something like that here before he got the banhammer.

Stephen Paddock - Private in 2003, later an Instrument pilot, Last medical in 2008...but listed from Mesquite Tx. Doesn't _sound_ like Henning.

Maybe be just a name doppleganger? What are the odds of a Stephen Paddock in Mesquite Tx and another one in Mesquite, Nv?

Edit - apparently the same guy. Also lived in Reno and Melbourne, FL

Unbelievable event...whole thing seems bizarre.

Neither is his race, but some hay's gonna get made of that...

Only relevance I see is that if this is, indeed, same fellow, then having ? had a PPL pretty rules out significant interactions with the mental health system back then.

I'm pretty sure Henning's real name has "Henning" in it.

I live in Vegas, and it was surreal listening to McCarran tower shutting down ops. At 00:30 they resumed one in one out ops.

Something just odd about this one. Usually by now they have a pretty good picture on who someone is, where they had worked, and such. For him, nothing... besides the fact that he once worked for a Lockheed Martin predecessor back in the 80s. He owned a house in FL that he apparently only went to a handful of times, which is weird. Even his house in NV they are saying was in good order other than a cache of guns... nothing out of place about the rest of it. Yet the way he did this was all very smart, well planned and strategic. Even had cameras in the hall to see when people were coming. Convenient his girlfriend was out of the country. His family is completely baffled and usually with crazies at least someone saw some red flags. He's not ex-military... maybe Fed?

This guy owns multiple properties, supposedly has no political or religious affiliations (according to family), no documented job history, boat loads of money and access to weapons most people don't. I've never been a conspiracy theorist, but maybe this isn't what it looks like with this guy on the surface. Or maybe my brain just can't wrap around how someone, anyone, could massacre people like this. Likely the latter.

Death count is now 59 with more than 500 injured.

Reporter said on CNN..."he has a pilots license so that would suggest that he had some form of mental evaluation at some point"...gotta love ignorance in reporting

Please don’t spread CNN’s ignorance.

What about Trump's?
What about it? I thought he delivered an appropriate presidential-like speech. I can’t say I’ve seen any ignorance during this situation.

idk, that's just what everyone always goes to whenever something bad happens. It's always Trump's fault. He is an idiot, but at least he stays out of most of the stuff he knows nothing about.

As of this moment, I have seen nothing but presidential like temperament from him regarding the shooting. I pay no mind to the people who say things like that. Before, everyone blamed Obama for everything, but nobody would admit it now. I try to be optimistic. :)

can we PLEASE not make this political. for the love of God. 58 people are not going home to their families. 58 families are shattered by this. Over 500 people are injured, some gravely. that's over 500 more lives that are irreversibly changed by this..

I am not sure how to tactfully express this because I in no way intend to give praise to this POS.

I seriously hope this does not turn into a copy cat thing but imagine it could because his tactic was so successful to his goal. (I know that sounds bad)
Being that far from the victims gives him a tremendously larger time to continue this terrible act. If he were in the crowd, he would likely have been shot, tackled, or what have you.

Remember the D.C. sniper? Those were one offs but again so far from the victim that the atrocity plays out a lot longer.

This was so disgusting and I fear other POS like this guy will learn that they can harm more people by distancing themselves from their targets.

I can't fathom what the families, friends, and other concert goers are going through right now.

**** that mother****er!

I agree. Just hope it stays that way
Naturally all the lefties will be pushing their gun control agenda for a couple weeks, then a new shiny object will come along to distract them and all the rhetoric will die down. Same 'ole, same 'ole.

Hillary is already tweeting. All I have to say is look at London, Chicago, etc... Where there's a will, there's a way.

I thought we were done with the guns arguement.
It was Guns, then we moved on to Gay marriage, what genitalia gets to use what restroom, and now this yahoo in the white house.

Keep up

There's truth to that. A pilot with a medical has been required to report any mental illness, medication, or doctor's visits. That is some form of evaluation, at least.

The daily mail says he owned 2 airplanes! This guy had a lot of cash. Something about his background seems fishy...

Looked up the SR20 he used to own - 5343M. Given it's most recent owner, maybe he was fed.

Maybe he got dumped. Maybe he had political convictions he didn't broadcast. Who knows. I'm sure we'll hear every theory from violent video games to Trump to lack of Jesus in his life. Whatever particular axe everyone has to grind will get brought up. A lot of news outlets have stories pre-written and ready to drop in the details so they can pounce on these incidents. Maybe I'm too jaded but I don't feel like anyone wants to get to the truth of things anymore, just find more bullet points to stack up their particular point of view.

At the risk of getting political let me tell you why there will be no common sense gun control. Basically, to use an aviation analogy, imagine if the people proposing all new FAA rules going forward were all the NIMBY/Safety at all costs/ambulance chaser/concerned mother crowds who don't think anyone should be flying those dangerous little airplanes at all. The rest of naturally would band together and oppose absolutely everything because most of the new regs would be aimed at totally destroying our hobby, lifestyle, and in some cases entire livelihood. Even if the occasional reasonable reg came about it would probably have a bunch of unreasonable stuff in it and we'd never trust it anyway because of who it came from.

That's where we are with gun control. The only ones writing it/pushing it are opposed to gun ownership completely and everyone who wants to keep guns is opposed to all gun regulation. In reality we probably do need a reasonable set of laws/regulations and they probably need serious reform for the good of all- including the gun owners who are stuck navigating a confusing and opposing set of laws that often make no sense(largely due to the political game I think). We won't get that though because the only way it might be effective and the only way it might be accepted is if it comes from the gun community not the anti-gun community and to date they're too distrustful of any legislation to get onboard with that.

There already are plenty of gun laws on the books. They're just not strictly enforced, and if they are, the resulting penalties (thanks to the lefty judges) are usually just a slap on the wrist. Look at the recidivism rates of the many criminals who commit violent crimes using a gun. They get a year or two in the slammer (thanks to the lefty judges) and then are right back out in society committing more violent crimes using you guessed it... a gun.

Keep politics out of this discussion. Banhammer will be enforced. Those who have already alluded to politics (and have considered it), consider this your warning.

Truly sad. I was surprised when I heard how old he was. I was expecting someone much younger. Must have had years of angst/crazy bottled up inside him.

The most interesting/scary thing is this was well planned, not any spur of the moment thing.
