Howdy,
My retired A&P lives near North Vegas Airport and is turning 80 years old this month. He called me and asked for a birthday gift. He wants to fly a plane again. Being he was a great help to me through the years, I am happy to oblige. He hasn't flown since he sold his Cherokee 235 about 10 years ago. I am looking forward to have him take the controls and knock a little rust off.

I'll be heading from San Diego to North Las Vegas airport soon. I have no issues with getting into the airport, through/around the bravo, or having him at he controls. But, I do need a little help with a short scenic flight around the area and a place for him to do a little familiarization and pattern work, if T&G's at VGT are not practical.

As always, thanks in advance!

Yu could fly to Mesquite for lunch, and the Mesquite airport is nice, easy for T & G's

67 NM each way

Overflying Zion NP would be a treat. You could do T&Gs at St George potentially.

Going east from Las Vegas, I think you can find what you’re looking for. Perkins field is great for TnG and just inside the Bravo. Don’t forget you aren’t too far from the Grand Canyon either. There are great ways to (legally) see it from the air.

Zion is great too, but you said a -short- scenic flight was needed.

down the scenic Colorado river and land 9and/or T&Gs) at Lake Havasu for a great on field burger

Thanks Gang! I am thinking Perkins or Mesquite will be in order. If not, is much pattern work done at North Vegas or does it cause issues with the regular traffic?

I fly the work plane to VGT occasionally and hear very little pattern work. For what it's worth, I'd try early in the morning, if anything. I've always found the tower controllers at VGT to be very helpful.

Please tell Bill, Happy Birthday, for me. Hope you guys have a great flight!!!
