Nice New Features at 1800wxbrief

I was impressed by the tools offered by Leidos. I particularly like how the relevant part of a TAF is highlighted in green (estimated time of arrival at waypoints is calculated from time of proposed departure and TAS). The graphical weather tools are overall easy to interpret and get through.

I am also more likely to file VFR given the new text message functionality. They will send an SMS message 30 minutes before proposed departure. You can then activate and close the flight plan through text.

There’s a lot of useful stuff in there. Check it out.

I like that the complete legend is available for the Surface Analysis and Prog Charts, but they use some symbols on the Radar Summary that I have never seen before and while they provide a legend it’s not helpful. Any idea what TVS and Meso are?

Mobile version is much improved. Like the briefing format. I wish they would actually have the most recent clearances to destinations; they offer it as a choice but none are ever available. Did I misunderstand that rubber banding is a new feature? Couldn't get it to work.
I like the site improvements though. Works pretty good with Android.

I had been using the AOPA flight planner for my "desktop flying" but this looks to be just as good and will save a step when I decide to go.

I'd like to use fltplan.com to do flight planning as it supposedly imports to garmin pilot. However I can not get past the 8 character limit on the username and password. WTH?

How secure does your flight planning account really need to be?

Financial info (online banking, investments, etc), sure, more characters and special characters too. For fltplan.com? Not so much.

@wayne not really concerned about security. I typically use gdwindowpane for all of my usernames. For fltplan.com I have to use gdwindow or something else. I have several passwords that I make minor changes to regularly, all which are greater than 8 characters. So more of a convenience factor than security.

@JScarry
TVS = Tornado Vortex Signature. The radar/algorithms think there is a tornado, or a forming tornado, there. "VFR flight not recommended." :hairraise:

Meso = Mesocyclone. From Wikipedia - A mesocyclone is a vortex of air within a convective storm. It is air that rises and rotates around a vertical axis, usually in the same direction as low pressure systems in a given hemisphere. They are most often cyclonic, that is, associated with a localized low-pressure region within a severe thunderstorm.

I saw they also added voice-assistant skills to Alexa and Google voice so you can get weather info etc all using the voice interface.

These new voice-assistants will be really useful for those visually-impaired pilots. I know several folks at the non-towered airfields who can’t see well enough to read, but having it read aloud to them would be a big help in their preflight planning.

Maybe I missed it, but is there a way to also take winds aloft into consideration?

The one thing I noticed is it spells out the remarks in English. I must say I've spent time going back and forth decoding the remarks section

“Alexa - What’s the METAR at alpha delta sierra?”

This is gonna be fun.

Is there a video on how to use the interactive flight planner, or am I just unusually dense today?? I know how to fill out an ICAO flight plan form and save it, and when I go to Interactive Map I get a nice magenta line depicting my route of flight, but......is that all there is? I feel as though I am missing something basic.
