Just saw these two tidbits in AvWeb's e-letter:

The first female pilot joined the Thunderbirds air demonstration team last fall and will perform with the team in the current air show season.

When did that happen??? Very cool! Now I really have to make it to an airshow to see them this season!

Sport Pilot TV has been picked up by Time Warner and will soon be available to 40 million viewers. The program is now carried by Turner Media and airs weekly...

Another very cool thing..especially since I have Time Warner cable and Tivo!

Wasn't it nice too that the Air Force did not make a big deal out of it? It does not appear as a stunt but as a normal, she deserved and earned it, event. Kudos to her.

Found the info on her on the Thunderbirds website. Maj. Nicole Malachowski flying the #3 jet. Also found out they will be in Fort Worth in September and in San Antonio in November. I'll most definitely have to make one of those dates!

Boy! You really have to get out more. Talk about a blast from the past!!!

You ain't lying! It was long about 1965 or so at Eglin AFB. I was living in Pensacola at the time. Here in Jax, it's all Navy.

I just reminded myself of a humorous event several years ago at an airshow at NAS Cecil. Just prior to the Blue Angels performance an F-15 Eagle did a demo. Because of the runway layout and the location of the crowd, he had to land a bit long in order to land in front of the crowd. He touched down with his speed brake deployed and during rollout it retracted...then re-deployed. Everyone was watching and waiting for him to slow down and turn off...but he kept on heading for the dirt at the end of the runway...rather smartly. Finally he disappeared in a cloud of dust and dirt at the end...and there he stayed until the show was over. The Blues were a little late in taking off while I suppose some discussion took place regarding the F-15 stuck in the dirt. They finally took off over him.
