Every New Year's Day at Gardner Airport (K34) we have a chili fly-in...several folks from the boards made it to the last one. I'm announcing it early so all y'all can make plans to be there. All of the local people bring chili...we have everything from traditional to chicken to venison to god knows what...people also bring dessert. Guests don't have to bring anything...just show up...EVERYONE is welcome...

Here is a (previously posted) picture from last year...That is Jeanné (Ladybird) and her husband, Matthew (monkey at the typewriter Matthew) and his daughter...and yours truly.

Kim, that always sounds like fun. If we didn't already have plans I'd consider flying up there this time. I haven't flown into Gardner since 2002...need to make it up there soon. :)

Last time I landed at Gardner was 2008, I got you beat, lol. I need to land there again someday just for the fun of it.

Kinda chilly to show your toes, isn't it?

Yeah - it's a good time. Anybody that has the chance needs to come on by!

Reservations are made in Kansas City, weather permitting we'll be flying down and spending the night.

What time is everyone meeting at Gardner?

It should be up in the low 20's by then. Just in time for the dumb and dumber's to be out and about.

Wayne, we don't stand outside and eat chili...we all crowd into the flight school and pilot lounge where it's warm and toasty.

The predicted high is 25...:frown3:

No further questions of this witness.

Compared to what we have in Iowa thats a heat wave!!!

I called the flight school to get info on the fuel situation there but had to leave a message. Any chance you know the conditions of the ramp? I 'd like to top off the plane while I am there.

I haven't been there yet to check it out - hopefully you'll hear back from Kim. I thought that I heard the ramp was clear.

If it doesn't work out - IXD and OJC are nearby and I can give you a lift. PM me if you need to.

I never heard back from anyone at the airport regarding fuel and the airport conditions so we elected to not come in for the Chili. Right now we are at the Westin at Crown Center enjoying our time together. We're heading back for home (Iowa) today after a visit to Union Station.

Matthew, thank you for the kind offer but with the wife and two kids I didn't want to burden you.

If anyone has any pictures to post, I'd love to see them.

Kim posted some pix at her Purpleboard site.

I couldn't see the runway (too much snow piled along the edges) to see just how clear it was. The ramp was mostly clear, but did have quite a few patches of ice. Don't know anything about the fuel. The ceiling dropped while we were there, but I don't remember the exact numbers.

Enjoy your stay - it's going to be a cold one today, good thing there are covered walkways between your hotel and Union Station. Did you fly down or drive? If you flew, where did you land, Downtown?

We flew into MKC. We had them stick the plane in a hangar overnight. Well worth the $60 that it cost. I'll hop over to the other site.....
