OK, a new quiz from my 777 pilot friend. I got the answer right, how about you?

He snapped this picture on departure from a US airport. His question:

* What feature in this picture made General Aviation news?

Notice it appears the runway no longer exists... is that true? Have the ripped up all of the concrete?
 
...runway is history, torn up with (as it turns out) more than one million dollars of federal Airport Improvement Funds (earmarked, IIRC, for ORD).

To call Daley pond scum would be an insult to waterborne plant life everywhere.

My singular economic protest is that I refuse to be routed through Chicago O'Hare. Every time I route through Denver instead I keep Daley's hands off another ~$10.
 
"Terrorists attack Chicago airfield" was the subject line I sent to a pilot friend that morning (he was at Sun-N-Fun). "The leader of the terrorists, mayor Richard Daley"...... naw, too good. We'll simply call him Dick.
